If you’re stuck on how to wear your hair for prom, go with the classic up-do. You can do this at home with a few girlfriends and some hairspray. Follow these steps below to create your very own perfect prom hairstyle.
- Start by curling your clean hair. Apply whatever products you’ll need to make the curls stay prior to curling (such as mousse, gel or hairspray). Using hot rollers, foam curlers or a curling iron, section off small sections of hair to be curled. The smaller the section, the tighter the curl and the longer your prom hairstyle will last. Finish off the curls by dousing them with hairspray (yes, you’ll need a lot of hairspray for this ‘do).
- Once the curls have had a chance to cool and set, remove any curlers. Flip your hair upside down and have a friend quickly spray your hair once again with hairspray.
- Now that your hair is curled and in no danger of losing its volume, begin pulling back each curl and securing it in place with a bobby pin. If you want a sleek look, you’ll need to comb each section, starting from the scalp to right before the crown of your head. Try not to comb out the curl. Wrap the curl into a circle and secure with a bobby pin. You may wish to make tiny curls, big curls, or flat curls. Whatever you choose, you’ll need to continue securing each curl of hair to the crown of your head so that you eventually end up with a mound of curls near where a ponytail might sit.
- Smooth out any loose or bumpy hair. As you were securing each curl, you might have left a few bumps or loose ends that you will need to take care of. Simply use a comb to comb these areas back into your curls, trying to hide any imperfections under the curls. You should end up with smooth hair all around your lovely curls.
- Finish off the hairdo. To ensure that your hair does not move throughout the evening, you’ll want to give it one more quick douse of hairspray, just enough to mist your whole hairstyle. At this point, any more hairspray will probably result in a sticky white mess that won’t be easy to correct without starting all over again. Pull your hair back and secure the curls.
Easy, you’ll have a timeless hairstyle that will last all evening and will show off your beautiful face in every picture that gets taken!
