Just like the types of steaks, there are many ways to cook steak, and make some inviting and scrumptious steak recipes. Popular amongst the various ways of cooking steak include, frying, grilling and broiling the steak. Some people also like to prepare steaks using crock pots. By far, using dry heat is said to be the perfect and the best way to get the tender most steak, possible. However, other methods of cooking steak are not so bad either.
Cooking Steak in a Pan
Cooking steak in a pan is one of the easiest ways to prepare steak recipes with lesser time. Cooking steak in a pan also requires fairly less level of cooking skills, which makes it ideal for even amateur people.
Ingredients
- 1" to 2" thick steaks
- Thyme and/or some favorite herbs
- Pepper and salt to taste
- Olive oil
- Butter
Clean the steak with cold water and pat it dry with a clean towel. Give a light coat of olive oil on the steak and then cover the dried meat with coarsely ground black pepper and kosher salt. Place the steak in a clean zipped plastic bag and let the meat sit for an hour or two. After an hour, prepare a frying pan and add a bit of olive oil to it. When the oil is hot, place the meat from the bag on the pan. Avoid crowing of the steaks so as to get more crisp crusts. Check for the development of the sear at the underside of the steak. If it is seemingly satisfactory, turn its side and cook the other side as well. Avoid charring and overcooking the meat by adjusting the heat levels. Cook steak till it turns to somewhat brown to mahogany in color.
Afterwards, remove the pan from heat and put generous amount of butter on its top. Sprinkle sprigs of your favorite herbs. The key is to remove the meat from heat when it is just about to be cooked and not thoroughly cooked. It's because meat keeps cooking for a while even after removing it from heat. Coat the steak with aluminum foil to retain the heat. You could also make sauce out of the remnants of the steak in the pan. Deglaze the pan with meat stock and give it a favorite flavor like garlic or shallot. Your steak is ready.
Cooking Steak on the Grill
To cook steak on the grill, sirloin or rib steak are the best. If you are using frozen steak, make sure to thaw it for at least 1½ hours before you start the cooking procedure. Remember that the meat must be at room temperature before you start grilling it.
Ingredients
- 1" to 2" thick steaks
- Thyme and/or some favorite herbs
- Minced garlic
- Pepper and salt to taste
- Olive oil
Clean the steaks and drizzle it with fresh lime juice, and then sprinkle coarsely ground black pepper and salt over it, only to cover all sides of the steak. In a bowl take minced garlic and thyme and mix both well, using generous amount of olive oil. Brush this mixture all over the meat with the help of a cooking brush. Now prepare the gas grill by preheating it over high flame for about 20 minutes.
Grill steak on high heat for about 3 1/2 minutes and then flip the side, using a tong (avoid using forks, at any cost). Immediately remove the steak from heat and place it on a plate to settle for about 5 to 7 minutes before you serve it. Serve this grilled steak with grilled vegetables, green salads and French fries!
