Cooking Lobster Tails at Home
There are various cooking methods, such as, steaming, grilling, boiling, baking, etc. that you can adopt, to cook lobster tails. Here are the instructions for steaming as well as baking it.
Steaming
Ingredients: Lobster tails, melted butter, lemon juice, thyme, rosemary, ginger powder, garlic powder and salt.
Things required: A bamboo steamer, a pair of kitchen shears, pan.
Procedure: Take the lobster tails and with the help of the kitchen shears, start cutting the shell. While cutting, make sure that the meat remains untouched. Make the cut exactly from the center of the lobster tail, till the base. Remember not to cut the shell from the base, as it is used to hold the lobster tail while eating. Now with fingers, separate out the shell and bring out the meat.
In a bowl, mix together melted butter, lemon juice, a teaspoon each of ginger powder, garlic powder, thyme, rosemary and salt to taste. Now take the lobster tail, and rotate it in this mixture so that it is evenly spread on it.
Take the pan and fill it with water. Keep the bamboo steamer on the water. Now let the water boil. When the water boils, place the lobster tails, right in the middle of the bamboo steamer and cover it. Keep the lobster tail in the steamer for some time. If the lobster tail is 2 oz in weight, keep it for ten minutes, if it is 4 oz, keep it for fifteen minutes. In other words, an important cooking lobster tail instructions is to keep heavier lobster tails for boiling for a longer duration, compared to the lighter ones.
Baking
Ingredients: Lobster tails, lemon juice, grated cheese, parsley, paprika, ginger powder, melted butter and salt.
Things required: Oven, aluminum foil.
Procedure: Take the lobster tails and the kitchen shears, and make two cuts on the lobster tails' shells, on both the sides. Now make another cut at the base, which joins these two cuts. Now take out the cut piece of shell. If you have done it correctly, the shell piece cut should be somewhat rectangular in shape. Now take a knife and remove the meat from the uncut lower shell but do not separate it from the meat.
Mix together butter, lemon juice, one teaspoon each of paprika, parsley, garlic powder, ginger powder and salt to make a lobster marinade. Now pour this mixture over the lobster tail meat.
Take the aluminum sheet and cover the lobster tail with it. Meanwhile preheat the oven at 450 Fahrenheit. Ideally, a 12 oz lobster tail takes about thirty minutes to be cooked properly.
After the lobster tail has been baked properly, take it out of the oven, remove the aluminum foil, put some grated cheese on top and a yummy baked lobster tail is ready to be eaten.
Instructions for Cooking a Live Lobster
If you are planning to cook a live lobster, then here are some easy cooking lobster instructions for you.
- Keep the live lobster in the refrigerator for some time, about half an hour.
- After half an hour, keep a pan of water for boiling.
- Take the lobster out of the refrigerator and remove the rubber bands put around its mouth.
- Hold the lobster with a cloth, just below its head and put it in the boiling water.
- The lobster should be kept for boiling as per its weight. Ideal is to keep it in boiling water, three minutes for every pound of weight.
- You do not need a lobster cooking time chart to figure out when its ready to be cooked, cause its color is the best indication. When it turns red, and stops moving, it is time to remove it from the water
- Once its removed from the water, pull out the claws and the tails. All body parts of the lobster are edible except for the gills and the head.
- The lobster is now ready, you can eat it as it is with a bottle of beer!
