When you scan any document, your scanner gives you a list of file formats to save the file in, but these cannot be edited. If you want to edit it, you have to go through the cumbersome process of rewriting or rescanning the document with relevant changes. You can save time and effort by simply changing a few settings on your computer. By doing so, you will get the scanned document in a .doc format, which can then be edited.

➔ If you are a Windows 7 or Vista user, go to Start - Control Panel - Programs - Programs and Features. For XP users, go to Start - Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs - Remove a Program.
➔ In the list of programs that appear, navigate to Microsoft Office edition and right click. Select Change from the drop-down box that appears.
➔ You will be redirected to Change your installation... page. Select the Add or Remove Features option, and click Continue.
➔ Now, expand the Office Tools option, and click on Microsoft Office Document Imaging. Next, click on Run all from my Computer, and select Continue.
➔ Your Document Imaging tool is now configured.
➔ If you already have the scanned document, simply open it in Paint. If not, then go to File - From Scanner or Camera, and initiate the scan. As the document you are scanning is a text file, select the black and white picture or text option in the Scan option. Now, open the file in Paint.
➔ Now, go to File and select .tiff option from the Save As tab. Close the Paint program. This file is the basic document that will be worked upon.
➔ Go to Start - All Programs - Microsoft Office - Microsoft Office Tools - Microsoft Office Document Imaging option.
➔ In the Document Imaging window that appears, go to File - Open. In the Open window, select the .tiff file that we had earlier saved.
➔ Once the file opens, you need to select the text. For this, press CTRL+A and then CTRL+C. The text is now copied.
➔ Now, open a blank Word document and press CTRL+V, to paste the text. Now select File - Save As, and save the document in the .doc format.
➔ Thus, you have created the word document. Make the necessary changes to the file and reuse it.
