How to Connect Laptop to HDTV

You need not be a gadget guru to understand connections between the gadgets. Know what I am saying? Say you want to connect an iPod to the computer or laptop or your PSP to the computer or any other gaming console to the TV. Is it tough? Of course not! Regular users of these gadgets amongst those reading this must be finding these a child's play, right fellas? Okay, so moving on, for those who are comparatively new entrants to this gizmo world, an HDTV and a desktop computer connection or even a laptop and HDTV might be a bit tough. But actually, when you try to do it, it is not that tricky a job.

The ease of connection will depend on how compatible is your laptop computer with the HDTV. Connecting both of them is sometimes better as you can watch films or any other thing which you might have on your PC on a bigger monitor. There are basically two very common standards used for that. These are Video Graphics Array (VGA) or High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI). In some cases Digital Video Interface (DVI) is also used, but that is for desktop computers. Once you have determined which medium to use, follow that by connecting the video cable you have, to the corresponding ports on the HDTV as well as laptop. • First, connect one end of the HDMI cable in your laptop HDMI port or the HDMI converter connected to the laptop.
• Now take the other end to the HDMI port on your TV.
• In case there are a number of HDMI slots, remember the slot which you use.
• Finally, set your TV in the HDMI video mode, matching with the number of slots you used initially.

The best way to connect laptop to HDTV, when it comes to the audio aspect is to use a digital audio cable - either coaxial or toslink optical audio cable.

In case you cannot see your laptop having detected the HDTV, after following the instructions, reboot it and then see. Even after that if it does not do so, you would need to go deeper in the display properties and settings helping you connect and display tv from your laptop.
