Nowadays, everywhere you go, people are looking into purchasing a flat screen LCD TV. Of course, the ambiance of any home or apartment changes drastically with these television sets. And the fact of the matter is, it really does look elegant. But besides making your living room look alive, there's one important thing you need to take care - cleaning your "prized possession" flat screen LCD TV. Now if you think that you can pick up any window cleaner and a paper towel to get the job done, think again. I think it would be better if you read the following article properly on steps on cleaning a flat screen TV properly.

Know Before You Clean...

Before you reach towards any commercial or homemade cleaning products, stop and read this. If you think that your flat screen LCD TV can be cleaned by a window cleaning solution, you can't be farther than the truth. The point I'm trying to make here is that your flat screen TV's panel is not similar to the older TV models we used to have. Those television sets used to have a thick glass which could easily be cleaned with a window cleaner and a paper towel. Of course, this method did remove all the dirt and fingerprints off your television screen. But now, if you try to repeat this step, you're in for a wicked surprise.

I know, you must be thinking that I'm beating around the bush. However, it is imperative that you read this section as well. The LCD TV panel is made of flexible plastic which is specifically designed. If you apply cleaners with chemicals in them, chances are you're going to end up with a blank flat screen TV. I'm not saying that that's what the results will always be, but there is a possibility. So why take a chance. The protective layer on your flat screen TV needs special care and cleaning them with harsh chemicals (which includes ammonia, glycerin, alcohol, etc.) can be disastrous. Also, just wiping them with kitchen or paper towels should be avoided. Sometimes, you can end up scratching the delicate surface or leave lint on the surface.

Best Way to Clean a Flat Screen TV

It could be possible that what I said before, about keeping your television panel away from chemicals, may have scared you a bit. Well, the point here was to keep you alert and tell you what you shouldn't do. So to summarize, no chemical cleaners, no liquid spray cleaners, and no paper towels, newspapers, or magazines.

When you want to clean flat screen LCD TV, you can either search for a commercial cleaner which specifically says that it is safe for laptop, LCD, and plasma screens. Only then, you should use the cleaner with a soft, cotton towel for cleaning. But there is another method to clean the flat screen TV.
  • First of all, turn the TV off and wait till the screen is completely dark (some televisions take a little time). When the screen is black, you can easily make out where the dirt and oily fingerprints are.
  • Take a soft cotton towel to wipe it first. Make sure you are not pressing on the screen too harshly.
  • You can either wet the cloth, make a mixture of distilled water and white vinegar (equal parts), or use a liquid detergent gel to clean tough stains.
  • Wipe off the cleaning product you used with another clean cotton towel. This will restore your television's optimal view.
I think the article has covered all grounds. And I hope that the information given in this article was helpful to you. The actual time to clean your flat screen TV doesn't take that long. Try it once, and you'll see what I mean.
