How To Choose The Perfect Foundation?

A quick guide on choosing the perfect foundation…
How To Choose The Perfect Foundation?
So how many times have you seen those models with flawless skin and secretly hated them? Well I do not know about you, but where I am concerned, every time I look at my skin and compare it to the flawless complexions of models on screen or print, I want to wear a paper bag on my head. But that doesn’t seem practical to me, so my next thought is to have some kind of skin transplant that allows me to get rid of the scars forever. But alas! We know that is expensive and impractical too. This brings me back to reality and to the world of makeup. Thank whoever introduced the concept of makeup or to be precise foundation, because without it, I would be walking around with a paper bag, believe you me!!

Now that we have thanked whomever we had to thank for foundation, lets get to how we would go about buying and choosing the perfect foundation. Here are some helpful tips:

Choose according to skin type
Before you splurge on that expensive foundation, know about your skin type. Your foundation needs to suit your skin and not cause any allergies or reactions. The last thing you want is another outbreak of pimples on your skin. Is your skin oily, dry, and normal or a combination of oily and dry? Those with oily skin should buy foundation that is oil free and also helps in control shine and oil in the skin. The best foundations for oily skin are in a matte or powder finish. If you have dry skin, then a foundation with some moisturizers is best for you. Opt for a creamy or liquid based foundation, this will avoid your skin from looking dry and cakey. Those with combination skin should choose a moisturizing, yet matte look foundation. And people with sensitive skin should go in for foundation that is free of fragrance and oil and one that has been tested for skin irritation.

Choose according to skin color and tone
Most people make the mistake of buying foundation that doesn’t suit their color or tone of the face. This only ends up looking silly, imagine a lighter face and darker neck. Avoid this by knowing what category your skin tone and color falls under. People who are very fair are ‘Ivory’, those who are tanned or darker are "Tan’ or ‘Beige’ and those who are not pale but not dark are in the ‘neutral’ or ‘natural’ category. Skin tone is the underlying tint in your skin. These are pink, yellow or peach. If you are a pink undertone, you need to even out your skin tone by using a yellow toned foundation.
While buying foundation, always select according to your skin color and tone. Try it on your face and not on hands because hands are always a different color from the face. Better than the face is trying out the foundation on the neck.

Choose according to climate and environment
Though most people do not even consider this climate and environment while choosing foundation, it is important. What is the climate where you live? Are you in a place that is cold, or are you in a place that is hot and humid. Your lifestyle and environment around you also makes a difference. According to this you may want to choose foundation with SPF in it, or one that is sweat proof and waterproof. Or you may want a foundation that has moisturizers in it.
