How to Choose a Bed Frame

What to look out for when purchasing a bed frame.
Picking out a bed frame is easy right? Well. Like anything there are some better than others. Within the last year I bought a bed. 10 months later it collapses in the middle of the night driving me to sleep on the couch.

When I bought the bed frame I had assumed that it was not going to collapse, in fact the thought never even entered my mind. The problem was that because I was none too flush after buying a flat (or an apartment if you're not in the UK) I needed a bed fast but didn't want to spend a fortune. So I bought a bed frame from one of the low cost high volume stores you find on the outskirts of every town. 10 months later, snap.

It turned out that a part of the headboard which connected by a screw to a certain part of the bed frame had become threaded. I managed to fix it with a couple of bolts and a drill. That is not the point though is it. It shouldn't have broke in the first place. So if you're still reading my fascinating tale of suburbia then here is my list of things to look out for in order to buy a sturdy bed.

1)When your friend offers to get you a decent bed frame from someone she knows who works in a bed factory making quality beds. Listen and then say yes. That one seems obvious doesn't it.

2)When in the bed store don't be afraid to jump up on a bed to see how sturdy it feels. The bed you're jumping on won't be for sale as it will be a show bed so go nuts.

3)Look at how the frame fits together. If it is a few pieces of wood connected at different sections then there will be stress points that could give way down the line.

4)Keep in mind how high the frame is. Try lying on it and getting up as if you're getting out of bed in the morning. If you realize one morning while getting up that the frame is too high its too late. Sorry to be dramatic but its true.

5)Don't worry about it looking good. That's what covers are for.

So if you follow my five step plan you will have success. This success will not apply to the rest of your life however its a good start. Read more on bed frame.
