Ever since the discovery of electricity, majority of our problems have been solved. But you must be wondering, why am I talking about electricity when we need to know how to change a light bulb in and around your home. Well, one thing is straight; without this discovery, you wouldn't be in this place searching for the answers. I know, I know... let's keep the jokes aside. But in all honesty, without that important light bulb, we can actually be the victims of darkness. There are many occasions which can make you want to change the light bulb and there are tons of places around your home, office, and even car, that you would require a new light bulb. And that's what we are here to discuss today. We have taken three most common places around the house where you would need to change or replace a light bulb - in your car, a lamp or fixture around house/office, and the microwave.

Change a Car Light Bulb
  • To change or replace your car headlight bulb, you'll require - a screwdriver, flashlight, and a new bulb. First, pop the hood in your car and place the flashlight directly behind the headlight.
  • You need to see if your car's headlight has a back cover or not. If yes, then take the screwdriver and open the back cover. This will give you access to the light bulb.
  • Once the back cover is out, you need to search for the wiring component of the headlight. Here, it may be connected with plastic clips.
  • You need to detach these clips and pull on the wiring. Bring the wires on one side.
  • After you finish this step, you should easily view the bulb now. Remove that bulb.
  • If you know which is the light bulb for your car model, then replace it, or you can take this old bulb and purchase a new one.
  • Just as you removed the old bulb, screw the new bulb in its place. Make sure it is secured properly.
  • Before you place the plastic clips and back cover in place, turn on the headlights to test them.
  • If they are working fine, plug the wiring and back cover in its place, and put the screws back on.
Change a Fixture Light Bulb
  • There can be many fixtures in the house that you might need to change the light bulb in. For this segment, we have taken a ceiling fixture. For that you will require - a ladder, light bulb, and a screwdriver.
  • First of all, turn the light off in the fixture and keep the ladder underneath it. Climb on the ladder without the screwdriver in your hand.
  • See if you are close enough to the light fixture and can replace the bulb easily. Also, make sure you are not standing on the highest step of the ladder to reach this fixture.
  • Check which screwdriver you're going to require in order to reach the light bulb. Accordingly, select a screwdriver and remove them from the ceiling fixture.
  • First, remove and bring down the cover of the ceiling fixture and then the old light bulb.
  • Take the new bulb and fix it in the place. Now, go down the ladder again and take the cover in your hand to secure it as well.
  • Make sure, that every time, you do one thing at a time. You may have to go up and down the ladder a lot, but it's the safest method.
  • Once the cover is in place, turn the light on and check if the bulb works.
Change a Microwave Light Bulb
  • Many times, you might find flickering light bulb in your microwave. To change the bulb, you'll require - flathead screwdriver and light bulb.
  • First of all, remove the plug from outlet when you are working with the microwave oven. You need to wait about 20 minutes so that the capacitor to get discharged.
  • With the right screwdriver, remove all the screws you can find on the microwave casing. Be very careful while working.
  • Once the screws are out, lift the cover off and spot the bulb on either side of the microwave.
  • You will remove the old bulb from the microwave and replace it with the new one. Place the cover back along with the screws and plug the microwave in.
  • Turn it on, to check if the light bulb is working or not.
And that is how a light bulb is changed in your car, fixtures, and microwave. I do believe that the next time you need to change/replace the light bulb, you won't face any difficulties.
