How to Care for Hair Extensions
Hair extensions are the best way to add length or color to your hair. Hair extensions care is not a very difficult task. The following article will help you learn more about how to care for hair extensions.
Hair Extensions Care Tips
Hair extensions are prone to damage just like our natural hair. The difference is that they cannot repair the damage as naturally growing hair can carry out. It is very important to wash your hair and keep it clean. Hair extensions soak up the natural oils produced by the scalp and tend to become greasy. They also become dirty after exercising, swimming, traveling outdoors, etc. Therefore, it is your job to prevent unnecessary damage to your beautiful hair extensions by taking some hair extensions care. The following hair extensions care tips will ensure longevity to your hair extensions life.
- Before washing your hair, remove any tangles and knots present in the hair by brushing. Using a good quality shampoo, wash your hair in downward motion. You should gradually wet your hair to prevent dry hair from swelling and getting tangled. Do not comb or brush hair extensions when wet as this may rip out the hair and damage them.
- You should use soft bristled brush from the ends of the hair. Gently brush your hair 2 or 3 times a day. Do not use excessive blow dryers and curling irons as the heat may reduce the life of your hair extensions.
- Moisturizing is an important part of hair extensions care. Apply leave-in conditioner to your hair when dry. You should apply it in very less quantity as hair extensions tend to become greasy. You should use only those hair care products that are recommended by your hair stylist for your hair extensions.
- If you are planning for a swim, then make sure you cover your hair with a cap. Do not allow your hair to get wet in the swimming pool water. Chlorine and salt water causes the hair extensions to get tangled and matted up.
- Hair extensions care also involves wearing hair in a pony tail but only if they were made to be worn in a ponytail. Many hair extensions fall apart when tied into a pony tail. You should read the instructions on the new hair extensions mentioning this fact.
- You should sleep only if your hair is completely dry. Hair extensions care also recommends wrapping your hair together or gently tying it to prevent tangles and knots.
- Another care of hair extensions involves not perming, coloring or applying any other chemical to your hair extensions on your own. You should consult your hair stylist for carrying out any such hairstyles and hair coloring activities.
