How to Buy a Cheap Mattress

Buying a cheap mattress isn't as hard as you think if you know where to look.
So you need a new mattress. Whether it's for yourself or for someone else, whether it's for your home or you are giving it away as a gift, the task of finding the right one can be daunting if you set off the wrong foot. To help you ease your way through the task of buying a cheap mattress, plan your purchase. Before you head out to the store to get one, plan your shopping trip. This doesn't only save you time, it also saves you money. Knowing what exactly you're looking for before actually browsing the stores, online or offline, would prove to be a more productive exercise. Before heading out to buy,

Make sure you know exactly the bed size you're buying a cheap mattress for. A mismatched bed and mattress could cause a sleeper to fall off the bed or roll to the floor, unnecessarily disrupting sleep. This is easy to know if you're buying for a bed in your own home but if you're buying one to surprise a friend or family, at least discreetly find out their bed size. If that's not possible, go mid-range and pick a good double mattress. Double beds are the most common standard bed size.

Pick your material. Air, water, foam, latex - mattresses are made from a variety of materials option. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Comfort over style is the rule of thumb. If you are buying to give away as a gift, be careful to pick a hypoallergenic material. You wouldn't' want anyone to be anything but happy with your gift. You certainly don't want them losing sleep.

Set your budget. It's important to know how much you're willing to spend for this particular purchase. It's easy to overspend on mattresses. The price range is wide, from cheap ones selling from $300, to high-end posh mattresses that sell for over $1500. So set a dollar limit before shopping for one so you won't get sold by smooth sales people trying to unload their inventories.

Choose your brands. Some people would argue this as an unimportant item. But if you're particular about the reputation of businesses your patronize, then labels mean quality markers for you. There are several makers of excellent mattresses. Read customer feedback and narrow the brands you think you trust to five. If you have a shortlist of best brands, picking the cheapest from this list is not sacrificing quality but getting more value from your dollars.

Go to reliable stores. Unfortunately, there are plenty of stores carrying fake or counterfeit products. Inexperienced buyers could easily be fooled. Even experienced buyers could mistake a fake for the real one. It's important to buy from retailers you trust. Just like brand names, stores with more established operations are likely to carry genuine brands. When they have a reputation to protect, they're won't to give customers reason to complain. Look for stores with customer support services (these are often large corporate businesses). Besides product quality assurance, you're likely to get a better deal from these stores.
