Building a Rabbit Hutch

Before you make plans to build a rabbit hutch, it is important to remember that the design of the outdoor rabbit hutch should be such that it has adequate ventilation, is comfortable, safe and is easy to clean. To know how to build a simple rabbit hutch, you will need the following materials.

Materials Required
  • 6 wooden plywood boards, 42''X 23''
  • 1 plywood board, 20''X20''
  • 1 wood blocks, 2''X2''
  • 6 Hinges
  • 1 inch diameter dowel
  • 3 mesh, 20''X20''
  • Electric saw
  • Screws
  • Washers
  • Industrial strength glue
  • 2 wheels
Method

To start this project, first you need to cut the wooden plywood into the required measurement with the help of an electric saw. Next, on three of the plywood boards, draw a 18'' diameter circle and cut out the opening with the saw. With a sandpaper, sand down any rough edges. Now cut out the three wire mesh into a square which is around 19'' on each side. Screw the mesh on the panels with the round openings which you had just sawed through. This will give you three panels which has wire meshes on them. Make sure that the mesh is sturdy and secure by screwing 4 screws with washers. If there are any rough corners of the mesh sticking out of the panels, just fold it inside.

Now attach the four side panels of the rabbit hutch to the floor panel with the help of industrial strength glue. Next attach the 20'' X 20'' middle panel which has the mesh wire attached to it in between the two side panels. Make sure that this middle plywood panel is perfectly aligned. Take the block of wood and cut into the width of the hutch. Attach the two wheels on either side of the wooden block with the help of bolts and screws. Now place the rabbit hutch upside down and glue the wooden block with wheels on one side of the rabbit hutch. Attach the top panel of the rabbit hutch and attach the hinges on them so that the top panel can be opened to feed rabbits and take them out. Finally, attach the wooden dowel for the handle on the side of the rabbit hutch, so that it can be moved from one place to another. Your rabbit hutch is now ready and you can keep your rabbits as pets inside it.

This was how to make a rabbit hutch. As you can see, a rabbit hutch is not at all difficult to make and most of the materials required for making the hutch are available in any good hardware store. You just need to attach four wooden legs, instead of the wheels. For pet rabbits, having a rabbit hutch is very necessary.
