Ways to Block Incoming Calls

Phoney Tunes
Many times, your phone itself would have a facility of blocking calls. To do this through your phone, these are the steps -
  • Go to your cell phone menu.
  • Then enter the 'settings' sub menu and go to 'security'.
  • You would find either a call restrictions or call barring option there. This could be phone specific, so it might be something slightly different.
  • Choose incoming calls by scrolling down the options.
  • This way you would have disabled all the calls coming in.
  • You can block specific numbers too, for example, your beloved telemarketers, who are giving you a hell of a time.
That was it, wasn't it as simple as it could be?

Enter The Code
This refers to inbound phone call blockers, which means that callers who have a special code to get through to your number will only be able to call you. Obviously, if that is the case, you would give this code to those whom you want to give your number.

The Service Provider
Apart from the earlier methods, what you can do is, you can contact your service provider. 9 out of 10 times, the service providers do help you block the annoying callers. Also, check out the national 'do not disturb' registry. It is really helpful, free of cost and you can be on their list for as long as 5 years.

Behind the Screen
Fiddle with your phone and check out your call screening options. Feed in the phone numbers of people you want to stay away from. If you are really lucky, you may get a call screener which will flag the last call, even when the phone number is not saved.

Between the Enemy Lines
This works like a mediator and keeps tabs on numbers you are getting calls from. You could also call it a secondary incoming call number. Such services give you the freedom to control the situation under which each contact's calls are directed to your phone.

Through the Sieve
In addition to the above, you can also try downloading the call filtering software. It filters particular numbers and thus, blocks them. These are based on the results from the caller ID and permit you to set up messages for unwanted calls. For instance, numbers where there is no identification.

In case you want to block calls on your home phone, you need to get a caller Id. Or in case of a cell phone, you can also have a distinct tone for specific numbers, which will indicate as a warning bell that you better chuck the call!

I hope now you would be able to ward off unwanted, frustrating and annoying calls at unearthly hours. This is where I sign off, leaving you with the warning bells!
