The child may or may not be related to the surrogate mother genetically. Surrogacy is of two types - traditional and gestational. In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate's egg is used and the intended father's sperm is artificially inseminated in the surrogate. In gestational surrogacy, the egg as well as the sperms are extracted from the intended parents and fertilized through the process of in vitro fertilization. It is then transferred to the surrogate's womb.
