How to Become a Musician
Music is one of the greatest channels of expression of thoughts and emotions. It is said that in the process of becoming a musician, music becomes a religion, necessity, an organ and a way of life. Many of the great musicians have described music as being a set of emotion and thoughts expressed. But, what I believe is that music is magic of emotions that tend to flow in any and every particle that exists in this universe.

If my music can change someone's mood for the better even a little bit, that's amazing. ~ Yanni

Well you can define music in as many words as you want, but I prefer to define music in another way. Lets put it this way, music is a creation that is born out of the emotions, thoughts and knowledge of the musician, it is heard, it is appreciated, it is stored, it is seen, it is felt, it is forgotten and it is destroyed...

So, what is the basic requirement in becoming a musician? You should be able to transform your inner abstract thoughts and emotions into notations that are meaningful and harmonic. So how do you go about the process of becoming a professional musician or becoming a jazz musician?

How to Become a Musician – A few Primary Tips
The first and the foremost thing is to start learning. I recommend you to take up some classical instrument like a piano or a violin for the initial few years. You can also choose instruments like the cello or clarinet in order to learn the basics. If you aim at becoming a rock star pick up an acoustic guitar. One of the best ways to learn the instrument is to approach a teacher in your locality. You can also learn the instrument on your own as there are enough learning resources that are available on the Internet. While learning the instrument, learn to feel each and every notation and all the scales and chords. In the initial first year, try to get out the best possible sound out of the instrument.

To know more about musical instruments, read on Piano Music, Acoustic Guitar, Bass Guitar and Violin.

Once you have mastered all the scales and chords of the instrument, start learning simple compositions. I would recommend that you start playing all the nursery rhymes that you know. Also, start listening all the famous compositions by legends like Beethoven and Mozart. If you plan on becoming a rock star then start listening to one album of one artist for a whole week and study all the songs. By doing this exercise you shall gain a lot of substantial knowledge about compositions and notation arrangements.

Remember to practice regularly and consistently. Practicing regularly is the single most important aspect of becoming a better musician. Make practicing your instrument a daily routine and religion. Also aim at achieving an additional step every day and keep up a constant progress.

I would also recommend that you study the staff and quote notation, thoroughly.
