How to Be Funny

It is a widely accepted statement that funny people are born, not made. Really? I completely disagree. I have seen so many people from when I was young, turn from absolute loners to ones who seriously ought to consider a career in stand-up comedy! Perhaps such a transformation is rare, but just as the funniest man you knew not too long ago has recently become a boring dud, the fact is that a person can learn to be funny. Well there are a few steps, which I believe if you follow, you too can be a fairly funny guy (or girl), who can have people around you, in tears with laughter.

How to Be Witty and Funny

Is it really that hard to be witty? I don't think so. I believe being funny is a state of mind. So if you're in a good mood, then you can be witty. If you're in a terrible mood, then you can be sarcastic. I guess funny people are just wired that way. But then if you aren't, but would like to be, here are some great tips I'd suggest you to follow.

Positive Thinking
Really? Positive thinking? How does that fit in being funny all the time? Well, if you're negative and pessimistic all the time, it's going to be hard to find anything funny and furthermore hard to BE funny. Learn to appreciate things that happen around you. If good things happen, you'll be happy. If bad things happen, hey, at least you get a funny story to tell! It's how you see a situation that matters.

Delivery
Often it is the delivery or the 'way-he-said-it' that gives your girlfriend a laugh as you will figure out with this point the funny on a date. Ever read the transcripts of episodes of the famous sitcom 'Friends'? Chandler doesn't seem all that funny there does he? That's because what he may lack in substance, he compensates for with his delivery. Hence, if you want to be funny around girls or guys, learn how to deliver a line, so that it sounds good and funny.

Surprise
The element of surprise can often play a key role in comedy. In your face, humor can often get boring and repetitive. Hence, it is always good to have the surprise element. It gives a larger impact to a joke or a funny anecdote you just told.

An Ace Up Your Sleeve
What if you don't have anything funny to say? If such a situation arises, it is better to be armed with a good joke or an anecdote just in case. Keep a funny story up your sleeve, so in case you're not feeling at your funniest and cannot think of anything funny at the time, you still don't lose out on the funny quotient.

Situational Comedy
Frankly I'm making this addition only because I love, this thing that is popularly known as situational comedy. The crux of it is, to create a funny situation and then make jokes off it for a long time. It makes perfect sense, it's funny and can be a joke that can last for a long time!

Observe
How important is observation in the quest to be a funnyman? Pretty important I'd say. Because if you're not naturally funny, then you might have to copy the style of the jokes which someone else cracks. So observe what another funny guy is saying, how he's saying and what's the response he's getting for his efforts.

As you can see, anyone in this world can be funny. All you need is a bit of work!
