Many people constantly want to know how to build quality bookcases. I have always said that if you want to build an excellent bookcase, you have to have the right tools. You also require lots of imagination to achieve those elaborate designs and styles which are often achieved by a skilled craftsman. To build bookcases, you will require the following items.

a screw driver and a hammer.
screws and brads.
sand paper, paint and stain.
pieces of thin hardboard.
'l' brackets.
A piece of lumber cut in half.
2 pieces of lumber cut into thirty two inch sections.

Producing intricate and sophisticated styles will require the expertise from professionals because it is quite a complicated process. The following are the steps that you will follow to build bookcases.

Step 1: Cut lumber to dimensions 2" 10" and 12" into two pieces. The cut pieces will constitute the sides of your bookcase.

Step 5: Attach 'l' brackets to the side of the bookcase and then align to the height of each shelf.

Step 6: Fasten the top shelf to the 'l' brackets on both sides of the bookcase then work on the lower part of the bookcase.

Step 7: To blend with the bookcase decor, pain the 'l' brackets.

Step 8: To fit the back of the bookcase, cut the hard board attach it to the sides of the bookcase and to other shelves.

As you build bookcases, it is vital for you to consider some warnings and tips so that you can take some caution.

For the bookcase to hold heavy material, the walls and shelves need to made from very strong material. Use 'l' brackets that support weight. Since they are available in many sizes, use the appropriate size and avoid inconvenience.

It is best to have adjustable bookcases and this can be done by drilling holes evenly on the side and shelf sleeves inserted.

The sleeves can be attached using screws outside the bookcase. Doing this will definitely make them invisible.

It will then be suitable to attach pilaster strips on the sides of the bookcase.

At this point you can add decorative molding to your bookshelf either at the top or at the front. This will be a great addition to your creation.

Following the above steps, tips and caution will enable you to come up with great creations with very little effort and stress. Also, you will be able to modify your bookcase and achieve distinct changes. With the color of your choice, you can paint your bookcase to make it very warm and inviting.
