How the Internet Changed the Automotive Industry Forever
We all love logging on to read email, send friends instant messages and everything else that can be done online. But the Internet has made significant changes to nearly every business. Learn how it has affected the auto industry.
The digital world of the internet essentially is a web of activity between hubs of computers or more correctly called servers. When you type in an address of your favorite website you are basically requesting information from a computer far away from you. If you have a home network and you move files between computers that is basically how the Internet works just a lot bigger. Global!
Today, the internet can also tout how it has changed the way the automotive industry communicates with hopeful customers. It use to be the landscape that was exclusively owned by the magazine rack. People do their research on cars, not by magazines anymore, but mostly by their online internet connection.
Magazines have realized this and have jumped into the online world with their review services. Instead of getting paid by revenues from magazine and subscription sales they now turn to advertisers.
Turns out that many of these advertisers are from the automotive industry. Auto makers realize that if they want their car to get the press it needs they need a strong online presence to do that.
The actual sale of cars is something that is also moving away from the car showroom and onto the monitors of computers. Several websites now offer services that allow you to get the absolute best price on a car or truck without having to go and haggle it out. I'd also add that these websites do an excellent job of getting the best price. Why wouldn't people want to be able to see the car they want, get the best price without hidden fees, pay finance or lease, and just pick up their car without seeing an annoying salesperson. It sounds good to me. This form of sales agent we will only see blossom in the future.
The typical auction that for years has occurred only in person is also something that is being done online. Car Auctions can be found and used online by websites like Car Auctions Inc. All that you need is a membership from the site and you can be on your way to auctions online and in your neighborhood.
We also can't forget the used automobile market. Once found only in magazines and newspapers, the internet is the main player where people look to sell or buy used cars, trucks and vans.
How about Car Repair? One really big business that is booming online is with the car parts business. You can buy necessary parts like tires or not so necessary parts like spinner rims online. Delivered to your doorstep at a price that is cheaper than your local automotive store.
Consumers are even turning to online reviews of local mechanics to find ones they can trust in their area. The Internet has helped consumers spot more trustworthy businesses to trust their car repairs to.
From A-Z the Internet has certainly revolutionized the automotive industry. For the consumer this has been a welcomed change. And in the future we look forward to continuing to seeing changes that benefit us when we are shopping for our next automotive purchase.
