How Not to Invent?
People are inventing things all the time, but the sad thing is that they often don't realized it!
A wise man once said that "everywhere you look, you see people copying each other, but the wise guy goes one step further, he called it his creation by giving it hands and legs", and that precisely is what invention is all about! You really need to steal the idea from somewhere and disguise it in the best way you can. The whole world is a copycat, and the smart one will even make some money out of it. You don’t believe? Well, just look at the ever increasing number of companies suing each other for patent infringements. The fact is that ideas don’t just crop up in our mind from nothing. Only the crazy ones will call it that. Ideas and inventions are just like a building; it is built from bricks, one at a time. And a brick is not a building as they are both different. So are ideas: it began from something else and it evolves.
You might then ask, since there are so much copying going on, how come I have not invented anything? Indeed, you have certainly invented something in your life, but it has resided in your sub-conscious. Did you not ever have dreams, dreams that felt fantastic? Have you ever floated in your dreams? Well, you have, and when you thought about it from a waking perspective, that floating technique looks impossible. Yes, you did invent a floating technique without knowing about it. Unfortunately for most of us, we do not proceed from those ideas due perhaps to the fact that we have to carry out our daily affairs like working for a living, where down to earth things are more practical. Only real dreamers pursue further and even that, they need to borrow ideas from others.
For those of us who can remember about our younger days, it must have daunt on you that there was a time when you did invented a toy by copying some ideas from one of your siblings, or from your neighbors during playtimes. It was just a simple toy, made from materials that were available to you then, but a toy no doubt. That was your invention, but you did not improve on that, neither did you know what an invention was, nor did you know it could make you plenty of monies. Yes, unfortunately, inventions are only made meaningful only if you are an adult, and only if you know what sort of intricacies that you will need to go through before it can be called an invention.
In short, inventions are everywhere. You make them every now and then. Most of us don’t realize it anyway. And you did copy some of those ideas from some one else! Again without realizing it! But in practical terms, an invention, were it to be meaningful, must need plenty of work before it is polished enough to be categorized as an invention. You also need to protect it and called it your own.
You will also need to consult a patent attorney as to ascertain as to whether it is an invention after all. It is therefore a complicated affair if you want to make invention that counts. Just think it this way. An idea is a novel with only the most ten pages, but an invention on that idea will need at least two hundred pages! The fact is that you do certainly invent things, but only in your mind and you forget about it the next minute. With so much ideas and copying going on, may I be permitted to ask, how not to be a real inventor then?
