How Long Is Forever? Part 2/3 Of Chapter 1
Destiney West is a 17 year old girl living in Providence, Rhode Island with her Mother, 6 year old sister Serena, and 10 month old baby brother Caleb. I ran back to the house and prayed to God I’d find that thing, I was getting worried, it was almost 9 and I didn't want to be late. But I was glad it was Wednesday since we got a later start on Wednesdays. Ok the living room, the living room, I thought to myself as I headed there. I dug through the sofa, throwing the pillows everywhere as I tried to hurry.
"Where could it be?!" I was going to cry. I was losing my mind here!
I finally dropped down to the floor and looked underneath the sofa. Aha! I spotted that pink fuzzy ear and snatched it and hurried outside. When I got to the car, I jumped into the driver's seat and threw Serena's pig ear in the back.
"Here. Serena! try to calm Caleb down!"
"I've been trying this whole time but he won't settle down! Oh yea, thanks for finding it." I back out of the driveway a little faster than I usually did. I sped a little as I made my way out of our neighborhood.
"Damn these gates." I grunted under my breath, waiting as the gate opened slowly. Seriously, it was like watching old people cross the street. Once it finally opened up all the way I made a move for it.

"Destiney, I'm late" Serena whined in the back.
"Yes, I’m aware of that Serena but I can't make the lights turn green. How do you think I feel? It’s already 9 and I have finals today." I ran my hands on my face and sat there, just waiting. it was taking FOREVER. I grabbed my cell phone and dialed my mother's number.
"Yea, hello, mom? ...Yes they're with me, Serena's going to be late...well what else am I gonna do? we're stuck in traffic...well you could've at least warned me the night before, you know I have finals this whole week..... Mom, how many times has this happened? You know that I don't mind taking care of them but I can't sacrifice my mornings this whole week." I looked at my brother and sister in the back. Caleb fell asleep and Serena was looking out the window.
".....Fine....look I have to go, it's turning green." I said finally, looking back at the car in front of me as I snapped my phone shut.
When I finally pulled in front of Serena's school, there was no one in front.
"Bye Serena, have fun!" I shouted as she jumped out the door, I waited for her to get inside and when she did, I headed straight for Carla's house. Carla is Caleb's baby sitter, who is also a very good friend of my mother's and was like an aunt to me.

"Hi Carla, thank you so much, here's his baby bag. I'll pick him up at around 3 or 4." I kissed him and handed him to Carla.
"Now you be a good boy Caleb, for Auntie Carla." I looked at him as he smiled at me, I caressed his cheek. I turned to leave and walked down the steps.
"Destiney wait! I was wondering, where is your mother?" I turned around.
"She had to drive to Warwick..her newest client is there and well..this is supposedly her biggest wedding yet so she's going all out."
"So what's the reason this is her biggest wedding yet?"
"Ummm...she didn't exactly say why but I heard it was for a designer."
"And she left you all alone to be in charge..again?"
"Well..yeaaaa..I guess so." I knew how Carla felt about this and I was ashamed for my mother. She looked down and shook her head then shut the door. I looked around before heading to the car.

It was 9:45 by the time I got to school. I ran straight to the doors of Hope High School and prayed I wouldn't get detention..I already have 2 this week alone. Don't get me wrong, I’m certainly a good girl when it comes to school but I’ve been late so many times because of my mother leaving and me stuck with all the responsibility of my brother and sister. I pulled the door to my first period class and felt all the kids turn to look at me from their testing sheets, I could feel myself turning pink.

"You know, I’m just glad I didn't get detention again." My best friends Chriselde and Mac and I were sitting in front of McDonald's in my car after school. Caleb was already asleep in the back not long after we picked him up.
"What about Serena?" Chriselde asked as she munched on fries.
"My mom picked her up, surprisingly. Usually, she'd call me to do." I backed out of the parking lot.
"You know, my boyfriend Henner goes through the same thing except his mom's a lazy-ass." said Mac, not lifting his gaze from his phone and texting away.
"I don't know..I'm just so stressed lately because it's finals week and since my mom's doing another "big" wedding she won't be around much so that means I’ll have to take care of Serena and Caleb."
