How Long Is Forever? Part 1/3 Of Chapter 1

Ouch. My arm felt numb as I pulled it out from underneath my stomach, I had been lying on it face down all night. I opened my eyes and set my eyes upon the alarm clock that was sitting on my night stand.

"8:10?!" I yelled to myself, morning breath and all.

I jumped out of bed and ran down the hall to my Mother's room but I saw that her bed was made so I looked through her window to see if her Black BMW was still there but it was gone. Next, I checked if Serena was still here, I was praying she had gone with my mom because her school started at 8:20.

"Serena! What are you still doing here?! Get up, up! Not again! Gosh, why didn't mom take you with her?!" I panicked as I picked her up from her bed and carried her to the bathroom.

"When did mom leave, do you know?" I quickly brushed her tangled long brown hair.

"I don't know, I think I heard her leave but I was too sleepy to check.." Serena yawned, poisoning me with her morning breath.

"Oh, oh okay, here's your toothbrush. I'm sorry, my alarm clock didn't go off this morning for some reason so I’m gonna need you to hurry up or else you're gonna be late, it's 8:10!" i pulled on her hair trying to put it in a ponytail while she brushed her teeth.

"Ow! Destiney! You're pulling too tight again!" Serena whined through toothpaste bubbles.

"I'm sorry. Hold on, I’m gonna get your clothes." I ran out of the bathroom and into her closet, I pulled out random pants and shirts and hurried back to the bathroom.

"Ew no! I don't like that shirt Destiney!" Serena made a face.

"Then go pick out what you want I’m gonna check if mom left Caleb with the babysitter." I heard a cry from the other room.

"Well i guess not." Serena said walking past me. i hurried to the other room and saw Caleb Standing in his crib crying.

"Oh oh oh, I’m so sorry, did mommy leave you? You must be hungry." I picked up Caleb and carried him downstairs. Once I was downstairs, I settled Caleb on his high chair and mixed some rice cereal with milk and mixed it until it turned into mush. I fed him some bites and grabbed the telephone.

"Serena! Are you ready?!" I yelled. She came downstairs dressed and ready, holding her pig costume for the play her school was having.

"Destiney! One of the ears are missing! I have to find it, the play is today!" she panicked around the kitchen.

"Ok I’ll look for it but sit down first and eat. Feed Caleb while I’m looking." I searched the living room, laundry room, and bathrooms.

"Where did you last put it Serena?!" I yelled from the laundry room.

"I was working on it in the living room last night." she said between bites of cocoa puffs.

I looked at the clock as I ran down the hall way out of the laundry room, it said 8:27.

"Oh my gosh! you're late! I'M gonna be late! Serena, hurry up and get your bag and go to the car already." I pulled her jacket out of the closet and the car keys off the rack and gave it to her. I picked up her dishes and put them in the dish washer as she scurried to the
garage. But then she came back in.

"Destiney, my pig ear!"

"I know, I know! I'm looking for it! Go and start the car already!. I sighed as my voice got a little shaky, I could feel my lips starting to quiver. How could my mom do this to me again? She knew I had finals this whole week.

"Come on Caleb, let's take Serena to school." I picked him up and bounced him on my hip trying to find his jacket but couldn't see it so I wrapped a fleece blanket around his tiny body and headed for the garage. I ran to my car and hugged Caleb tight so he wouldn't be cold.

"Destiney! my ear! my ear! my ear!" Serena whined as I got into the back seat.

"Yes I know baby, I’m looking for it but I have to take care of Caleb first." i tried putting Caleb into his car seat but he started crying and wiggling his body all crazy, getting him into his car seat was always hard.

"Yes, yes I know baby..please get into your car seat, we have to take Serena to school..Caleb, it's ok, it's ok." I said gently to him as he cried and refused to get into his car seat. Finally, I held him firmly and pushed his body down so I could fasten his seat belt. He cried even louder.

"I know, I know baby, I’m sorry." I kissed him on the forehead. "Serena, watch Caleb while I get your pig ear ok?" I said, jumping out of the car.
