How Could You Pt 4

The story still continues.....
Chapter 5

"From now on this is where you will be living." Lesga said. He had rented a flat on the advice of his dad and today Grace had moved in.
"Are ya crazy babes?" Grace asked excitedly.
"Maybe I am, crazy in love."
"Oh but what will yer mam say?" Grace asked worriedly.
"Don't worry about her. Listen tomorrow I'm taking you shopping and your tutor will be dropping by on Monday."
"A tutor?" Grace asked, eyes wide.
"Yes, she'll be teaching you lots of things."
Grace was excited to begin her new life. She couldn't wait to go shopping. All her life she had to wear second hand clothes, now she'd finally get to be the first one to wear her clothes. She wondered what Lesga's mom would say if she knew all that he was doing for her and her family.
Steele had given her parents house an upgrade. He'd even bought them new furniture. He had also helped them secure a contract to deliver fruits and vegetables to several small hotel chains. It was the start of new beginnings.

After several months, Grace and Lesga decided to have Steele over for dinner. It was a smashing success, Steele was very pleased at the way Grace carried herself, she really lived up to her name. He hardly recognized her as the girl Lesga took to dinner so long ago. She now oozed of confidence, she had cut her hair short and had colored it. She wore stylish clothes now and spoke very well, Steele was impressed. He was certain Decora would not remember her.
Before Lesga took her to meet his mom again, he took her away for a romantic getaway. All the while pretending he was gone to visit his friends in Fresno, well that's what he told Decora.

At the hotel Grace's eyes went wild. She had never stayed at a hotel before and this one was magnificent.
She felt like a child who had gotten a new toy. She had to restrain herself from acting silly.
"Aren't you glad you came?" Lesga asked when he saw the excitement in her eyes.
"That's an understatement this place is magical. Let's go to our room."
They spent two days in their room. Then they filled the other days going on tours and having fun. On the last night he took her to dinner at Tokyo Garden, a local restaurant near Fresno.
"This is nice." Lesga said smiling at Grace.

"It is. It's a pity we have to leave tomorrow."
"Don't push it. We should have left tonight remember I have a job?"
"Yes not everyone gets to set their own schedule." Grace teased Lesga.
"Grace how long have we been together?"
"So long I can't remember being without you."
"Grace, you know I love you and I'd do anything for you."
"Yes." Grace started to wonder if he was about to break up with her. She smiled nervously.

Then he leaned across and gave her a gift box.
"Go ahead open it."
"What's...is this what I think it is?"
"Will You consent to spending the rest of your life with me?..As my wife?"
"I....I don't know what to say."
"How about yes?"
"Yes?....yes...yes of course I will baby."

Chapter 6

"When is Ann coming over? We must start planning this wedding. There's shopping to be done, caterers to book." Decora beamed. She had met Ann a few weeks earlier and had approved of Lesga's choice for a wife immediately. Of course she had no clue that Ann was in fact Grace.
"Anyone would believe it's your wedding the way you're acting." Steele teased her.
"Lesga be a darling and get that charming daughter in law of mine here pronto."
"Mom the wedding is not until the next three months. There's no rush."
"Hmph...You are my only child I get to do this only once. Plus all my friends will be there. This has to be perfect. It's just a pity that Ann's parents aren't around, I would have really liked to meet them."
Steele shook his head, why was he surprised it was always about her.
"Okay mom, I'll bring Ann by this afternoon. Dad I need to talk to you about some legal matter."
**********************************
The very next day Grace found herself scouting the malls, she bought a few outfits for her honeymoon. Not to be left out Decora had bought a few dresses and jewelry for herself. By the time they arrived at the bridal salon Grace was so tired, every bone in her body ached. Decora on the other hand was just ready to begin.
With the help of the wedding planner Grace was able to choose the perfect wedding gown. She had allowed Decora to choose the cake as well as the menu. Everything else was left to the wedding planner Randy Bayshore, who had been a wedding planner for six years and whose services didn't come cheap.
"Ann there are two things we have to get settled right now." Decora stated, pointing an accusatory finger.
"The first is to get your guest list together and Listen I know your Mom and Dad passed away don't you have anyone else?"
Grace almost fainted how was she supposed to pull that off? The only family she had was her Aunt and Uncle and she was bound to recognize Elizabeth, even though she too had changed a lot.
Nervously she smiled and nodded.

When she got home she called Lesga to let him know that his mom had been asking about the rest of her family.
"What am I going to do?" Grace closed her eyes.
"Don't worry....I'll think of something. How did everything else go today?"
"It was great. I've chosen a nice simple dress, Decora thinks it's too simple but I really want a dress that I can feel comfortable in."
"That sounds like mom." lesga laughed.
"Yes we've also decided on the menu and the cake thanks to your mom."
"I'm glad you two are getting along." Lesga said.
"Yes but what happens when she finds out who I really am?"
"Don't worry about anything, we'll be signing our marriage certificate before the actual service and it's not like your name isn't Ann."

Chapter 7

Three months later they got married in a small ceremony. Décora was so happy showing off her daughter in law she didn't even realize that Elizabeth and her husband Reggie where there. They were dressed up just as everyone else and didn't look out of place. Grace was thrilled and so were they, happy that Grace was finally really truly happy.
After the wedding Lesga took his wife to Tahiti for a month.
A week after they got back Grace confirmed that she was pregnant. She went to visit her inlaws so she could give them the news.
"My first grandchild!" Grace beamed excitedly. "I hope it's a girl. I've always wanted a daughter but after Lesga, I really didn't want to go through all that again."Decora stated, hiding the fact that she had only one child for fear she'd loose her figure.
"I'm thrilled but I haven't told Lesga about the baby yet."
"You can tell him when he comes to pick you up later. Oh I hope this is the first of many grandchildren."

Grace smiled she was happy that Decora was so excited. Decora saw her smiling and gave her a hug.
"You know Ann not many women find a good daughter in law...but I believe when my son chose you for his wife he couldn't have mad e a better choice." Decora was surprised at the tears in her eyes.
***********************************
Later when Lesga came to pick up his wife. He found her and his mom deep in conversation.
"What are you brewing now?" He asked them suspiciously.
"Tell him darling." Decora urged.
Shyly Grace took her husbands hands.
"Honey....I...we are going to have a baby."
"What?! Are you sure?" Lesga found himself laughing he was the happiest man alive.
"Yes."
"Let's go home. Mom we'll be back in a few minutes. Can you tell Dad the good news?"
"What's the rush? You've already made the baby. Your dad will be home soon." Decora laughed.
"Mom we'll be back there's something Grace and I must take care of tonight."
***************************************
"What's this about?" Grace asked, when they were in the car.
"Grace it's time. Tonight I want Mom to know the truth. Do you still have that dress you wore for the first time you met my parents?"
"Yes....your dad told me to keep it, but I don't -"
"Grace tonight we tell her the truth."
Thirty minutes later they were at Lesga's Dad house. Steele answered the door and though he recognized the dress Grace was wearing he didn't say anything.
"Your mom is getting ready. She'll be out in a minute." He winked at Grace.
When Decora came to the table she looked at Lesga and then at Ann...Ann without her make up, without her jewels wearing that same dress she wore to dinner almost two years ago.

"What's going on?" She asked confused.
"Mother this is Grace, my wife." Lesga told her.
Decora looked at Grace who held her head down, while the tears ran down her face. She prayed that Decora wouldn't react the way she did the first time they met. Then she looked at her husband who was looking everywhere else but at her.
"Oh Grace...I'm so sorry...for the way I treated you back then. I'm so so sorry my husband and son had to go through all this...If only I'd accepted you...the way my husband and son did....?"

"It's okay-" Grace started to say.
"No...it's not. You are a wonderful person and I almost drove you out of my son's life...our life. I'm so ashamed. Can you ever forgive me...Grace?" Decora asked.
It was the first time that Lesga had ever heard her apologize to anyone for anything.
"Of course, You've been more of a mother to me." Grace laughed despite her tears.
"All is well that ends well. I for one am glad that's settled. Decora let that be a lesson to you never judge the book by the cover." Steele was serious, he hoped that Decora had truly learned her lesson.
"I love you grandma." Lesga said giving his mom a hug.
