How Can You Create Relationships if You Won't Tell People Your Name?
If you hide behind anonymity, how can peple get to know you? Networking is a relationship business. Find out how to create those relationships.
How important is creating relationships? It is vital to any type of business you do. It's especially important in today's internet age.
I don't know how many times I go to forums, blogs, social networking sites, etc and see someone using a name like:
CompanySuperstar
SuperstarSpaceCommander
BigGuruMarketer
MakeMillions
Can you imagine someone who wants to talk about your opportunity picking up the phone and saying "Could I speak with BigGuruMarketer please?". It's not going to happen!!
Network marketing is a relationship business. People join people, they don't join companies. They don't join BigGuruMarketer. They don't join SuperstarSpaceCommander.
The first thing that people will do when they are checking out an opportunity is to "google" your name. Go to http://www.google.com, http://www.yahoo.com, etc. and search for your name. See if YOU show up on the first page. If you don't, you might as well hang it up and go home.
My phone rings a lot. People see my comments on blogs. They see my forum posts. They see my social networking sites. Then they go to a search engine and search my name. They read everything that I've done and the most common thing I hear is "I just felt like I knew you". That is what you want to create.
People are smart. This is the year 2008 and almost everyone knows how to use the internet even if they don't have it at home. They go to the library and use it for free, they go to internet cafes, they use it at work, they use it at school.
If you are doing business on the internet, you need to be a real person, not someone hiding behind a fake name. One of the great things about the internet is that you can stay anonymous if you want. However, anonymity will not work in this situation. Brand yourself. Let people get to know you. The more you can help people feel comfortable with you before they pick up the phone, the more people will pick up the phone. Begin that relationship building process before they contact you or answer their info request. Don't just be a cold person hiding behind a "capture page".
One of the oldest, most deep-seated human needs is the "desire to belong." It's a desire to be treated like a real person. People are not numbers. They are people. They deserve to be treated descent and they deserve to get to know you before making a decision whether they want to join your business or not. Give them that.
Go "google yourself" and see what you find. This is what your prospects will be seeing. If it’s not what you want them to find or if you can’t find yourself, then you need to rethink how you are doing business.
