How Am I Driving?

Its ten to midnight
My phone blinks, it's just a missed.
My rides here,I 'll be there in five.
I gather my ID and my bag and zip down the stairs,
Taking them three at a time.

The white of the cab picks up the yellow of the street lamp.
The driver is a little grumpier than usual.
I greet him with a smile and he gives me his customary nod,
And off we go to pick the rest of the roster.

The hatchback accelerates likes there's no tomorrow.
Thank god for seat belts.
"How am I driving?", it says on his bumper.
Not very well if you ask me.

The seats smell of sweat.
But that's a norm for every cab around.
So is a statue of Lord Ram,
with Chinese lights twinkling in the pitch dark.

We drive around the area picking up people.
It's just half past twelve and we are almost there.
I can see the company gate from here.

A flick of the identity card and a check of our bags
And off we go to work. One more night,one more shift.
