Housemates (Chapters 11 and 12)
Serena makes a rash decision.
Chapter 11
I sat up, my vision hazy. "Serena," came Shane's urgent voice. I blinked and everything came into focus. Alec was holding something to my neck which felt wet with liquid. "Lucas," I croaked. "My blood couldn't sustain him so he drank yours, hopefully that was enough," Shane shrugged.
"Where is he?" I asked, sitting up straighter. "In his room," Shane replied, checking my face over. I looked down at my neck and saw Alec pull away the cloth placed on it, it was stained red. I groaned. "Hey, don't look at that," Shane said softly, pulling my face gently to face him.
"Are you okay?" I questioned, looking at his neck. "I'm tough," Shane told me with a crooked grin. "He's a werewolf, he heals fast," Alec said, rolling his eyes. Shane chuckled and laced his fingers into mine.
I sighed heavily and Alec wiped more of the spilling blood from my neck. "When will it stop?" I breathed, wincing at the red liquid seeping uncontrollably from my neck. Shane smiled and cupped my cheek. "Ignore that," he commanded.
"I'll just put a gauze over it," Alec told me. I waited patiently and eventually he was done. "I'll go make some dinner," Alec said, before leaving. I swung my legs off the bed. "Hey, not so fast Serena," Shane cried, holding me back.
I blinked at him. "What's a matter with you?" He smiled, peering into my eyes. "This is all my fault," I whispered. Shane's features set hard as stone, he could have passed for the vampire then. "This is not your fault," he growled. "Yes it is, everything is, I've ruined everything," I croaked.
He snapped his teeth together and I looked up at him. "It's not your fault you're attractive," he then told me. I shrugged him off and curled my knees up to my chest. He chuckled and stood up, broad and tall. "It's not your fault you're loved either," he told me.
"I want to see Lucas," I mumbled. Shane rolled his eyes and sighed dramatically, earning a small shy smile from me. He held out a hand and I took it as he led the way down to Lucas's room. I entered the room and saw he was tucked in the bed he never used.
Shane closed the door and leaned against it inside the room as I tiptoed over to the bed. He had his eyes closed but I knew he couldn't sleep. There was a droplet of dry blood clinging to his lower lip and I shivered slightly.
"Serena," Lucas said smoothly, cracking one eye open. I let out a breath of relief and perched on the side of his bed. "I'm so sorry," he sighed. "You're already forgiven," I told him quickly. "I don't care, I shouldn't have taken your blood no matter what," he told me.
"I didn't want you to die Lucas," I pointed out. "Maybe it would be for the best," he told me quietly. I saw his eyes look over to Shane and I turned as well. He had one knee propped up against the wall and his arms folded, a book in one hand. He looked up as we stared at him.
"A little privacy?" Lucas asked. "No can do, leech boy," Shane said with an angelic grin. Lucas let out a measly sort of growl and Shane laughed before turning back to the page he was on. I gave a small smile and clutched Lucas's frozen hand.
"You're okay, right?" I asked, stroking his hair back from his face. He nodded and smiled. "I'm sorry," I told him. He frowned. "I'm sorry because this is all my fault, everything," I explained. He looked taken aback by statement.
"This is not your fault," he started, but I put a finger over his lips. "Don't," I sighed, standing up. I walked to the door and Shane moved, opening it up for me. I turned around and smiled, giving a small wave. "Rest now," I told him before leaving.
"Dinner," Alec called, as I reached my bedroom door. I sighed and turned around, Shane was already downstairs, begging for food. We ate dinner in small talk and once I'd finished I shoved my plate away and retreated upstairs.
I sat on my bed, cross-legged, staring at the duvet below me. I'd caused everything between these boys, I continued to battle with myself, blaming myself for everything. Tears started to outline my eyes and I bit my lip, trying to hold them back. This was my fault.
I stood up quick as a flash and grabbed a huge overnight bag. I started to shove my things inside it, raiding my wardrobe and scooping every last trace of me into the bag. I tugged on a coat and my shoes then zipped up the bag, it was at bursting point.
There was a knock at the door and I ran to it, holding the door handle so he couldn't get in. "Serena, it's me," Alec called. "Go away," I called back. "Serena," he repeated himself and tugged on the door handle. "Serena, you're hiding something," he guessed. I sighed and pulled away from the door.
Alec immediately entered, checking me for damage. He clocked my overnight bag and his eyebrows raised. "What's going on?" He questioned. "I'm going for a short break away," I smiled, hauling the bag on my scrawny shoulder. "That's not a good idea, you're like a magnet for trouble," Alec said reasonably, holding his hand out for my bag.
I shook my head. "Alec, I need to get away for a bit," I pleaded, I brushed past him and made my way downstairs. "Serena please be reasonable about this," he called after me. I sighed and stopped at the door. He stood at the top of the stairs, looking down at me.
"I'm going Alec, I want you guys to be rid of me," I told him. "You don't need me in your life, I'll be fine on my own, I've just messed everything up," I shouted, angry at myself. I yanked the front door open and headed outside, dialing a taxi as I went.
I hurried down the road waiting for the taxi a couple of minutes from the house. Now I had a bigger question. Where was I going to go?

(Chapter 12)
I ended up at my sister's house. She looked surprised to see me as she opened up the front door to her adorable little home. She was a neat freak, with hair always tied back in a bun and makeup which was brushed on immaculately.
"Serena," she cried. She wrapped me in a hug quickly and then pulled away with a frown. "What have you done?" She asked. "Nothing, but can I stay with you for a while Katrina?" I asked. My sister studied me then let me inside, closing the door behind us. "You're skipping school aren't you?" Katrina asked with a deep sigh.
"I just need a break," I whined, dropping my bag down. "Oh hey Serena," came a sleepy voice. Katrina's Fiancée, Michael. He waved and then continued through into the living room. "So why have you come all the way to see me?" She asked, grabbing us both a drink in the kitchen.
I perched on a bar stool. "It's nothing," I shrugged. "Love?" She asked. I shook my head. She narrowed her eyes at me. "Liar," she grinned, just like a proper sister. "Can we just leave it?" I asked, running a hand through my hair.
"Of course, I'll show you to your room," she replied.
Alec's POV
I ran out into the street, looking down the pavement to see nothing. With a sigh I went back inside, running a hand through my thick hair. "Yo, dude, want to take a run?" Shane asked from the kitchen.
"No thanks," I replied. He frowned at me and raised an eyebrow. "What's up?" He asked, in his usual boyish charm. We'd been best friends since we were small kids, he knew everything about me and the same in turn for me about him. "Serena, she just left," I told him.
He flipped out straight away. "What the hell," he shouted, running out the front door. He appeared a minute later. "She'll come back, I'm sure," I told him. "She's vulnerable out there alone," Shane complained. "Come on," I said, slapping a hand on his back and leading him into the living room.
We sat together watching reality TV, half way though I grabbed a bottle of animal blood from the cellar, it was only for emergencies, and since Lucas wasn't strong enough to hunt it was an emergency. I went upstairs and pushed open Lucas's bedroom door.
He was propped up slightly and looking miserable. I went over and handed him the drink, he took it gratefully and swallowed it down without breath. He placed the empty bottle on the table and now sat up fully. "Where's Serena?" He asked quietly. "She's left for a while," I told him.
He looked alarmed and tried to get out of the bed. I held his arms down and he hissed. "She's already gone, we don't know where, but she'll be back, there's no use in running after her, she obviously wants to be alone," I informed him. He sighed and settled back into the bed.
I stood back again. "I worry," he told me, his face crumpling slightly. I stared at him. Didn't he realize how much I worried about this girl?. Ever minute of the day. I gave him an encouraging smile and left the room. Sick of always having to keep the peace, be thoughtful constantly and reasonable all the time.
I took off, out of the back door. "Hey, you said you didn't want a run," Shane called after me as I disappeared into the trees of the wood. The faster I ran the more my blood pounded as I morphed into the half of me that was wolf.
I sprinted through the forest, clearing out anger and negative thoughts. I slowed down to a prowl and panted. Serena's face ran through my brain, I couldn't shake it away. With a growl of frustration, mainly directed towards Shane and Lucas , I sprinted off again.
Serena's POV
I was lying in the spare room that night, staring at the ceiling and thinking of the boys. I could hear my sister's laughter and Michael's too. That made me feel worse, I wanted that kind of relationship. One without complications and with laughter and love.
I sighed and flopped onto my stomach. As Katrina laughed again I tugged a pillow over my head and eventually fell to sleep.
"Fancy going shopping today, some sister bonding time?" Katrina asked the next morning. "That would be great," I smiled. "Get ready and we'll go as soon as possible," Kat smiled, pecking my cheek and then heading on upstairs with a mug of tea for Michael.
Shane's POV
It felt strange, a whole night with no Serena in the house. I hadn't slept well and woke up feeling grumpier and more pissed off than usual. I raided the fridge and Alec laughed as I tried to balance all the food on one tray.
After breakfast I washed and changed then headed out to the car, where I drove to school. With no beautiful blonde passenger.
"Hey Shane," I was greeted by a group of lads from my classes. I grinned and walked into the school building with them. "Where's Serena today?" Asked a voice. I turned and saw James, he was leant against the wall, a greasy smile on his face. I glared at him and the boys around me bristled, as if at my command.
James held up both hands in quick surrender. "I was just curious," he told me. I headed over and grabbed hold of his collar, slamming him against one wall. "Touch her, say her name or even breath near her and I'll slit your throat," I snapped, jabbing a fist into his gut. He gasped and sunk to the floor in a gasping heap.
"Come on Shane," someone said steering me to class. I spent dinner playing football, I was the best player but tended to be a bit too aggressive, making one too many foul tackles. I got a red card by the end of the first half and sat on the side lines. "Hey Shane," breathed a raspy voice.
Marianne Cole sat down beside me, her skirt riding up deliberately. She wasn't a school slut, she was picky with her men and chose carefully, but when she chose she demanded. "Hey," I replied coolly. "So I'm having this party tomorrow night, want to come?" She asked with a whisper at my ear. I stood up and flashed a crooked grin.
"I'm sorry, I'm already engaged." I replied, leaving her in a stunned moment of silence as I walked away.
