Housemates (Chapter 13)

Bit of action.
It had been a week without the boys and I felt set free, but also like I had withdrawal symptoms. I needed them, they were my best friends. "Serena, come on." Katrina yelled from downstairs. I groaned, I couldn't take another girly shopping trip.

"Serena," she cried again. I swung myself off the bed and grabbed my bag, dumping it on my duvet. I was going home as soon as I came back from shopping.

Shane's POV

"Shane, give the bag a break." Alec sighed from the doorway. I turned away from the punching bag that I'd been pounding my punches into. My best friend looked concerned but I didn't want to talk about it.

"You've skipped school," he pointed out. I shrugged. "You don't want to slip into old habits, remember what you used to be like." Alec scolded. "You're not my Mum okay, my gang days are over." I assured him angrily.

"You were a gang leader Shane, that isn't something you can just let go, you had powerful werewolves at your command." Alec told me. "I know," I sighed, letting my hands drop to my side. "We're all missing her," he suddenly whispered. I gritted my teeth and turned away from him, he sighed a moment later.

I waited till he'd moved away and then I started beating the crap out the bag again. I paused as I heard Lucas and Alec chatting. Lucas was still bed ridden but he was growing stronger again. I felt a pang of jealousy at my best friend and enemy getting along. I raised a kick at the bag and imagined it to be Lucas.

I was walking back from the school that evening after playing a football game against a fellow team. My mobile buzzed and I checked it lazily. I perked up immediately as I saw it was a text from Serena. She was coming home and I cheered silently.

I hurried home and burst through the door. "Hey Dog, S is coming home." I called out. Alec appeared, smiling as well. "You know what, I'm going to make dinner." I informed him. Alec raised both dark eyebrows at me. "What?" I cried. "Shane, no offense, but cooking is not your forte." Alec told me with a suppressed smile.

I took my shoe off and threw it at Alec, he caught it just before it whacked his nose. I grinned and slipped my other shoe off, dropping it to the floor before going into the kitchen. I started searching the cupboard and found some fish and salad.

(Twenty Minutes Later)

"Want some help Shane?" Alec asked, a smug grin on his face. I glared at him and stared down at my charred salad and burnt fish. "How do you burn salad?" Alec laughed, dumping it in the bin. "I put it on the fish in the oven," I replied. Alec laughed even harder and I rolled my eyes, picking up a pizza menu and dialing.

Serena's POV

I was sitting in a taxi as night drew in. We were stuck in traffic and I was biting my lip in the silence. "You eager to get home, because I think this might be some wait," the driver told me. "I can wait." I replied politely. I couldn't see his face through the darkness, but I saw the flash of a grin on his face.

An hour later we finally escaped the traffic jam and I yawned, growing tired of the journey. My eyes started to close and I just lay, daydreaming of home. The car stopped and I scrambled up. I peered out of the window but we weren't outside where I'd directed my driver to go.

"Hey, where are we?" I cried, tugging the door open. I fell out of the door and found we were in a very quiet lane, it was in the middle of barren countryside. I frowned and heard the driver get out.

I gasped as I saw who it was. "What do you want?" I spat, putting myself in a defensive position. "I realized that I couldn't lure Alec with you, he'll always find a way back to you, so I thought if you're out of the picture then there wouldn't be anything stopping him." Alec's Father explained. He was clearly out of his mind.

I stared at him wide-eyed. "Alec will know you killed me, he won't come with you." I warned him. His Father laughed, cold and harsh. "Not if I saw who killed you, and don't worry I have the perfect murderer," he grinned. I stepped backwards, tripping.

"I wanted to make this fun though," he chuckled. "So I'm going to count to a hundred, while you hide," he called, laughing. I gaped at him. "Oh and I'm going to be in wolf form, that means super senses," he shouted into the night air. I turned and sprinted down the lane.

My breathing was erratic and a cold sweat creeped down my neck. I fished in my pocket and thanked the heavens for the mobile in there. I held it up into the air while still running. The signal was low but it would have to do.

I quickly dialed the first number Alec's. "Alec your Father's trying to kill me." I gasped as I turned the corner and saw a woods up ahead. I stood no chance. "Where are you, Serena?" Came his urgent reply. "I don't know, in the countryside somewhere, there's a woods and a lake," I panted.

I heard an echoing growl. "Oh no," I moaned. "Serena, climb upwards, into the trees," Alec commanded. I heard Shane talking to Alec now. "Serena," came Shane's voice. "Yes." I replied in a near sob. I scrambled through the trees and grabbed a small branch, swinging upwards. "Serena, we're tracking this call, we'll find you." Shane assured me.

A snarl ripped the air and I scurried upwards, clutching each branch and getting higher and higher. "Shane, I'm scared." I sighed as I lost my footing for a moment. "Don't worry, I swear I'll protect you," he told me seriously. "And if all else fails, aim for the eyes, try to blind him," Shane said lightly. A sad smile creeped onto my lips as I looked out onto the lane.

He was prowling along it, looking cocky even as an animal. I took a deep breath. "Sweetheart, we're in the car now." Shane told me. "Are you climbing?" Alec shouted. "I'm in a tree." I replied. "Stay there." Alec commanded.

I bit my lip and leant against the tree trunk. I knew Alec's Father was close now, I could hear the breaking of twigs beneath his paws. "Serena," Shane called down the phone. I hung up and held my breath as he rubbed against my tree.

He moved on and I let out a tiny rush of air. He let out a huge growl and stalked forward. A moment later my phone rang and I answered it quickly. "Sorry, I forgot I had to be quiet." Shane said, the grin in his voice. "Idiot." I muttered. "Hey S, we're here." Shane told me.

I smiled. "Don't get hurt." I said. "I'm going to hang up because I'm going wolf." Shane told me then the line went dead. Suddenly I heard sharp claws scraping against bark. I looked down and saw the huge black wolf, scratching at my tree. He spotted me and let out a sound close to a roar.

I broke off a huge branch and threw it down, trying to help the boys somehow. It just made him angrier. In the shadows I saw two wolves, working as a team. One growled, Shane. Alec's Father turned and he looked alarmed. Suddenly all hell broke loose.

Shane lunged, without thinking. He was wrestling and snarling with Alec's Father. Alec shook his head and I smiled at the gesture, even in wolf form he was still the reasonable one. He started helping Shane and I watched on edge.

I suddenly heard a deep rumble and saw one wolf limping. "Alec," I cried. He looked up at me and I saw the blood from one of his legs. I started to climb down the branches. There was another huge whimper as I reached the floor. Alec's Father lay motionless on the floor. Shane's fur matted with blood.

Shane appeared in his human form in a second and ran to me, squeezing me tightly. "I've missed you so much," he sighed. "I missed you too." I whispered. I pulled away and looked over at Alec, he was in human from now, slumped against a tree, blood seeping from a cut on his arm. "He's a werewolf, he heals fast." Shane reminded me, as he saw my face drop.

I went over and crouched beside him, his eyes were fixated on the body of his Father. I looked up at Shane. "Sorry about that mate, had to be done." Shane said, resting a hand on Alec's shoulder.
