Household Mold Solutions - Spotting and Getting Rid of Household Mold

Mold is not only unsightly, it can be bad for your health too. Unfortunately, it is quite persistent and even likes to hide in out of the way places. Here are some tips on finding, and killing household mold.
Household mold is something that is more common than you think. It can be caused by a leaky roof or pipe that you may not even know that you have. The next thing you know, every time you are in your house, you are getting headaches or having breathing difficulties and you cannot figure out why. Have no worries though as there are some common household mold solutions that you can use to rid yourself of this problem.

If you notice that your symptoms clear up soon after leaving your house, it is a definite sign of mold. It is not just that ocean air that is making your breathe better, it is the mold infestation in your house that you are constantly being exposed to. Amazingly enough, getting out of that environment can clear it up pretty quickly.

When trying to find the moldy area, it is a pretty simple thing to look for. If you have black areas on your wall or ceiling that you wipe down and then they come back shortly thereafter, you have mold. The mold may also be traveling through your vents from behind the wall. If you see leak stains on your ceiling or wall, they very well may have mold behind them that is affecting you.

When you see the spot of household mold, you are going to have to try and trace the actual cause. As we have already stated, it may just be a leaky pipe or ceiling leak. Once you find the problem, you need to get it fixed before you treat the area as doing so without fixing the actual cause will only allow the problem to persist.

When you have fixed the source, you can clean up the mold. Get a pair of goggles, gloves and mask before you disturb the mold. First you can scrape the affected area and clean it with soapy water. Then you will have to clean the area again with a bleach and water solution and then finally with an anti-mold and water solution. After each step, make sure the area has dried before you move to the next. Drying by air is fine if you do not have a fan that you can use in the area.

After the mold clean up is done, you need to dispose of everything that you used that came in direct contact with the mold. Do this by putting everything into a plastic bag in the room that you were treating and then seal the bag. You should immediately remove the bag from your home and dispose of it in an outside dumpster or can. The area should continue to be monitored in case the mold returns. If that happens, you should repeat the process above and check the area's again to make sure that you have actually taken care of the cause of the mold.
