Hot Tub Maintenance

Be it a spa or your home sweet home, hot tub maintenance is inevitable. Scroll down to get insights on the same.
Ah.. It has been a long and tiring day and all you want to do is flop on the sofa, have a cup of tea, or have a nice hot bowl of soup, then curl up and sleep. But wait, there is a change in the order. I forgot a very important thing. Before the soup or the tea, there is going to be a hot water bath in the hot tub! Or perhaps you had an idea about your schedule and had taken an appointment in a spa for a rejuvenating hot tub treatment! There is nothing better than a hot tub escapade for complete refreshment, right? At the same time though, to keep that hot tub in a good condition and absolutely inviting, hot tub maintenance is equally essential.

Hot Tub Care and Maintenance

Chances are likely that warm water, if not treated and stored properly can breed microorganisms and generally too, not cleaning the bathtub can be unhygienic right? This is where the issue of maintenance of the bathtub comes in. It is more crucial in case of spas.

The H2O
As mentioned, the water is what mainly has to be taken care of. The water change has to be done every 60 to 90 days, depending on the usage. Before you fill freshwater, remove your filter and put a chemical plumbing flushing agent for cleaning the bacteria. Then drain the water and then clean the interior with a non foaming surface cleaner. Don't forget the cover for the tub as well. Follow that by cleaning the filter prior to putting it back in the place. Replace the filter if it is old and then refill the tub. Use a UV protectant on the cover, inside out to protect it from the sun. This will be apart from the daily and weekly maintenance rituals.

Sane Sanitizing
Just as the water treatment is essential, sanitization of the hot tub is equally important. Chemicals, basically chlorine and bromine, are used for this purpose. Bromine level ideally need to be 3-6mg/l. Bromine is available in tablet form. Chlorine, on the other hand, is available in granular form which helps it dissolve quickly in hot tubs. Chlorine has to be in the range of 3-5mg/l. In addition to this, oxidizing the hot tub will be good for monthly treatment of the tub with non chlorine shock. Odor of perspiration, cosmetics and body oils and other odors are gotten rid off by this treatment. The acid and alkali level of the water, too, has to be checked. It is done with the help of chemical additives. Along with that, you can use a clarifier for keeping the water crystal clear. This will basically be the water treatment.
