Horse Betting Tips for the Horse Racing Track

Learn a few simple, yet vital horse betting tips that you should be aware of prior to placing your first, or next, bet.
Horse racing has been described for many years as the Sport of Kings, and it continues to be known as that even today. Though it may not be as mainstream as other forms of gambling, horse racing still has a large potential to be profitable for you, if you know how to work the statistics for yourself and act appropriately. Many people have become multimillionaires upon successfully working the horse racing tracks worldwide. However, at the same time, there are many more people who have also lost substantial amounts of money. Making sure you are a part of the former group rather than the latter can help you realize your dreams and using some of these tips can help get you there:

Keep informed of each horse and jockey combination as you enter the track.

Every horse racing track from Churchill Downs to a small track in your local town should be able to provide a detailed statistics book for you that lays out both jockey and horse winning statistics over time. As horse racing is a combination of both a good rider and a good horse, keeping up to speed on the latest information on what and who will be racing at your local track is the basic foundation necessary to set yourself up for success. Many times, using the information found in the book alone to make an informed decision based upon previous wins and expected payouts at the betting counter can be enough to allow you to see some profitability from your ventures. Many people have even been able to predict high-paying trifectas from this information, without any other input.

Observe the horses.

Look specifically for horses that have a broad chest, which allows them to take in large amounts of oxygen and maintain high speeds for a long period of time. Also, look for horses that show smooth, solid movements as they walk around the warm-up ring. You should be able to see all horses prior to each race in the display yard as they are walking around and getting warmed up. Though it may be tempting to simply sit in the stands and watch the races as they happen, getting out of your seat before each round and viewing these horses personally can help you see firsthand whether or not they may be capable of maintaining the required speeds for the duration of the race. You may also be able to determine the health condition of each horse, which can tell you whether or not they will perform as standard on a particular race day. It is usually easy to see a Poor horse before the race even begins, while stronger horses should also be easily discerned.

Do not forget the jockey.

Knowing the jockeys on the track and their own personal winning streaks can usually tell you something about the horse they will be riding. The more famous jockeys with higher winning streaks typically only ride horses that will help them further their careers and are hired only by the best breeders to ride their horses. As horse racing is a combination of both horse and jockey, it would be foolish to leave out the human factor that plays an important role in this combination. Knowing the jockeys can help you predict more easily which horse is most likely to show up in the first few spots and can sometimes be an indicator all by itself as to how the race will turn out.

In order to place well-informed horse bets, you should stay up to date with the latest sports betting news to ensure that you know about all the recent injuries, newcomers, etc.
