Horror Movies List

A horror movies list you won't want to miss a chance getting your hands on, with the best horror movies till date, and new ones to look forward to. If you've got a thing for scary, spine-chilling movies, then you're in the right place...
I remember my first horror movie flick - 'Horror Express', where an anthropologist's men dig up a strange frozen specimen resembling a creature-like form, in the snowy mountains. While transporting the fossil by train, it somehow sets itself free, and has this weird supernatural power of turning people into white-eyed zombies, if you looked into its red eyes. It somehow even drained one's mind of its knowledge - creepy. It was pretty scary to me back then, especially the whistle-like tune that constantly found its way in and out of the movie.

Then a few years later, I saw 'The Exorcist', one of the many horror movies based on true stories (supposedly). I was caught unawares by the possessed 12-year-old girl, that went from angelical to demonic contortionist. Till date, nothing seems scarier than watching her writhe in bed, spit profanity and mimic a real-life victim of spirit possession.

Some of the Best Horror Movies of Yesteryear

Good horror movies are hard to come by, especially when the storyline is rushed, qualifying as a B grade movie of a bunch teenagers abandoned in some obscure area most of the time. I hope that this year 2011 doesn't fail to impress, and if it does, then I hope you have your stash of classic old horror movies to turn to. Let's take a brief look at some of the scariest movies that have entered the cinematic world of horror, making them timeless in their individual respect.

The Exorcist
For a lot of people, spirit possession is as foreign to them as a language they know not how to speak. Discussions about the same end with most of us laughing off the idea of being demon-ridden, with believe it or not, thousands of people who do not believe in spirits. Based on actual events (or so they say), the 12-year-old girl in this hair-raising horror flick is one hell of an actress when it comes to enacting her part as being possessed by Satan and other ungodly spirits. Her struggle takes the movie from creepy to heart-wrenching, with a series of the same movie taken into a following of fictional sequels.

IT
Do you have a fear of clowns? Or as they call it, coulrophobia? Well if you do, either when as a child or now as a grown up, I don't blame you. The sight of them can send shivers up your spine; their red hair, bright makeup and overstretched smiles can leave any child or adult running for the hills. IT is based on the novel by Stephen King, the "king" of horror and all that is dark, depicting a storyline of a bunch of kids who have to confront their worst nightmare as they go back to their hometown to face the one thing they thought they'd never have to come face-to-face with again.

Psycho
This original black and white Alfred Hitchcock movie made it big back when it was first viewed by audiences, where the remake surprisingly takes up the fear factor a notch. The suspense and the ensuing mystery leaves one shocked and wide-eyed as the end comes to a finish. A terror classic that any horror movie fanatic would be crazy not to watch.

Chucky
Got a love for dolls? Kids will be dumping their much-loved plastic companions in the trash can once they get a load of this movie. An instant classic during its release, Chucky has been able to keep audiences rooted in front of their screens while the main character Chucky plots his way through the movie after the spirit within it takes over a doll's body, when his human self is shot to death by a police officer in hot pursuit. It's black magic at its best in this chilling movie flick.

Halloween
Wearing scary masks and parading over town, sneaking up on your pesky neighbor or the wimpy kid next door, became favorite pranks after movies introduced masked killers and monstrous entities that fascinated audiences and gave companies the big bucks upon distribution. Halloween and the many sequels and remakes of Mike Myers (notice how he murders his family wearing a clown mask as a child?), have been a rage among horror movie fans; his unique and savage way of killing victims is memorable and epic when it comes to horror movie history.
