Honey Roasted Almonds

Honey roasted almonds are the ultimate snacks as they are healthy and filling. It is not very hard to make honey roasted almonds at home.
Snacks are such an important meal in our routine and we all tend to veer towards chips and drinks that are laded with fats and calories. So why not go healthy this season and opt for honey roasted almonds instead. They are not only more nutritious but they also have a crunchy texture with great taste. They can be found in any supermarket but the best way to make sure that what you are eating is healthy is to make your own.

Homemade Honey Roasted Almonds

Ingredients
  • 2 cups almonds with skin
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons almond oil
Method

Place the almonds on a baking sheet and roast them in the oven at 325º C for 10 to 15 minutes. When the almonds have changed color to a dark tan, remove them from oven and set aside to cool. In a medium-sized saucepan, heat the honey with water and almond oil. When this honey and oil mixture comes to a boil, reduce the heat and add the roasted almonds into the saucepan. Stir with a wooden ladle for a few minutes and make sure that all the almonds are coated in the mixture. When all the mixture is absorbed by the almonds, transfer them to a bowl and toss in the sugar and salt. Mix them together and arrange them in a single layer on the baking sheet. Allow it to cool and enjoy delicious roasted almonds.

Honey Roasted Almonds with Ginger

Ingredients
  • 4 cups almonds with skin
  • ½ cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons canola oil
Method

Place the almonds in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast them in a moderately hot oven for 10 to 15 minutes. In a bowl combine the dark brown sugar with salt and ground ginger and keep it aside.

In a large saucepan, combine the honey with canola oil and water and allow it to come to a gentle simmer. Stir this mixture continuously with a wooden ladle so that the honey mixture does not stick to the bottom. Pour this honey mixture over the almonds and mix them well so that each almond is evenly coated. Now sprinkle the dark brown sugar and ground ginger over the coated almonds and spread them on a baking sheet till they have cooled.

Spicy Honey Roasted Almonds

Ingredients
  • 4 cups almonds with skin
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1½ teaspoons paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
Method

Preheat your oven to 165º C. In a medium-sized bowl, add the granulated sugar, cayenne pepper, paprika and garlic powder and set aside.

In a large saucepan, stir together the butter, honey, and salt over medium heat until all the butter has melted and the mixture is sticky and caramelized. Add the almonds and stir them with a wooden ladle so that they are evenly coated. Place the coated almonds in a single layer on a baking dish lined with parchment paper. Bake the almonds in the oven until they are golden brown in color. Now transfer the almonds into a bowl and sprinkle them with the spice mixture. Toss the almonds to coat each of them in the spice mixture.

You can also try adding some other spices like cinnamon and nutmeg for flavor. Calories in honey roasted almonds is around 594 for every 100g. So they should be consumed moderately. They are full of calcium, potassium and essential fatty acids which are good for your body.
