Homeward Bound
Dark.
Homeward bound
My feet know the way
I'm tired and my nerves affray
Walking among them
Like a wolf in fold of sheep
But now I'm tired and want sleep
From black paved street
To hallowed sacred ground
Murmuring to self and thinking aloud
First comes the granite
Then comes the limestone
And marble like polished bone
Wind and bare trees
Still pond and whistling reed
A dark quiet place is all I need
Clank of iron gate
And shoes tapping on step
Here is the place my coffin is kept
My feet know the way
I'm tired and my nerves affray
Walking among them
Like a wolf in fold of sheep
But now I'm tired and want sleep
From black paved street
To hallowed sacred ground
Murmuring to self and thinking aloud
First comes the granite
Then comes the limestone
And marble like polished bone
Wind and bare trees
Still pond and whistling reed
A dark quiet place is all I need
Clank of iron gate
And shoes tapping on step
Here is the place my coffin is kept
