Homeschooling and Distance Learning Benefits

For the many parents that have chosen to homeschool their child, it was a big decision that came about after much research and consideration. Homeschooling is rarely an easy task, and one of the keys concerns that enter the parent’s minds is whether or not they have the ability and knowledge to be the teacher and do the job correctly.

The good news is that due to recent advances in technology, there are more tools available than ever to assist parents in the task of providing homeschool education for their children. Whether you are homeschooling a child for the first time, or have many years experience, distance learning can benefit you – which will ultimately benefit your child and help shape their future.

Distance learning can be utilized in two ways. Some parents work long hours and/or have several children to teach, so use distance learning as a substitute for providing their own educational tools. This is also an option for parents who lack the confidence to develop and deliver their own program. The second way in which distance learning can be utilized is as a supplement to an existing curriculum.

Either way, distance learning has much to offer parents in educating their children. Here are some of the primary benefits for you and your child:
  • Additional Education: When parents have delivered their daily program, a distance learning program can provide additional education and feedback, re-iterating what has been taught that day.
  • Certified Instructors: The teachers that deliver lessons for accredited distance learning schools are all fully qualified, with the relevant credentials and certifications which permit them to educate in a specific area of study. This not always the case with teachers at regular schools.
  • Accredited Lessons: Many parents feel that they do not have the experience and credentials to educate their children personally. In some states homeschool parents are now required to hold valid teaching certificates to be considered as ‘official’. An accredited distance learning program gives these parents a second option, and provides tuition that meets all governmental standards and requirements.
  • Individual Attention: One of the primary reasons why parents choose homeschooling is because it gives their child more focused education and more individual attention than a school teacher can, when there are 20-30 other pupils in the classroom. A distance learning school can also offer this, by providing additional academic time, and a support network through an online system.
  • Flexibility in Scheduling: Distance learning schools can assist busy parents, who do not have enough spare time to provide a complete program of education for their child. They help to keep the academic integrity of a homeschool education program by allowing students to attend classes, at times which are convenient for them to do so.
