Homemade wine can be made with different varieties of grapes. But did you know that you can experiment with different fruits to impart a unique flavor to your homemade wine recipes. Here is a simple recipe for making homemade wine.

Simple Homemade Wine

Ingredients
  • 2 kg muscat grapes
  • 1 ½ kg granulated sugar
  • 4 liters water
  • 25g wine yeast
Method

In a large earthen pot, add the grapes and crush them with your hands into a thick pulp. Pour water over the pulp and strain the liquid by pouring it through a cheesecloth. Discard the pulp and add the sugar and yeast into the liquid and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Allow the liquid to ferment for a week or two in a cool dark place. When you see that the liquid is clear and there are no more bubbles, then pour the homemade wine in bottles and allow it to mature for 10 to 12 months before drinking.

Homemade Strawberry Wine

Ingredients
  • 3 ½ kg fresh strawberries
  • 6 liters water
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 ½ kg granulated sugar
Method

Wash the fresh strawberries and hull them. Place the hulled strawberries in a large earthen pot and mash them with your hands. In another pot, boil the water and pour it over the mashed strawberries. Add the lemon juice and stir the mixture thoroughly for 2 to 3 minutes. Cover the pot with clean linen cloth and place it in a cool dark place. Leave the pot for one week and stir it once daily. After a week, strain the mixture through a cheesecloth into another large pot, discarding the strawberry pulp. Strain the strawberry liquid one more time through the cheesecloth so that there is pulp left in the liquid. Now add the sugar one ladleful at a time, stirring continuously until all the sugar is dissolved. Pour the liquid back into the earthen pot and let it stand in a dark place for another week. After a week, pour the strawberry wine into glass wine bottles and use fermentation locks to seal them. Allow it to rest in a cool place, free from humidity for about three months. When the wine appears to be transparent and has no more bubbles in it, pour the wine into individual bottles. Cork the bottles and age for at least a year before consuming the homemade wine.

So this was all about making homemade wines. It is very important to use good quality yeast for fermentation. Try to keep the temperature stable during the fermentation process for the yeast to work. You can also try making wine by using different types of fruits like black currants, gooseberries and pears for new flavors.
