Homemade Italian Spaghetti Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 peck of tomatoes
- 32 ounces sliced mushrooms
- 3 stalks of celery, chopped coarsely
- 18 ounces tomato paste
- 1 green pepper, chopped coarsely
- 2 tbsp salt
- 10 standard cooking onions, chopped coarsely, divided
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 very large cloves of garlic, pressed
- 1/8 tsp crushed red pepper
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 5 bay leaves
- 1½ tbsp basil
Add half the onions, tomatoes, green pepper and celery in blender, and whirl till it reaches desired consistency. For a smooth sauce, blend for a longer time. Take a very large pot and pour the blended vegetables into it. Add the remaining onions, spices, mushrooms and tomato paste. Cook on a low flame for 3 hours. However, if the desired consistency is achieved earlier, you can stop. Cook longer for a thicker sauce. Take out bay leaves and serve, or freeze it for later use.
