Homemade Facial Masks for Acne Prone Skin
Because acne prone skin is sensitive, you need to be especially careful about what acne skin care products you apply. In general, choose ingredients that are known for their soothing antiseptic qualities, like honey, yogurt and cucumber, to make homemade face masks for acne. The instructions for application are more or less the same; apply the mask onto cleansed skin, and then leave for 10 to 15 minutes, or until dry. Wash well with lukewarm water, then a final rinse with cool water to close pores and finally, pat dry with a clean towel. The following are some easy homemade facial masks for acne.
Baking Soda Mask
All you need is some baking soda and water mixed to form a paste. Apply this paste onto the skin, and leave to dry. This face mask for acne has proved very effective for some people, with a drastic reduction of acne, however should you feel any discomfort or itching, rinse off immediately with cool water.
Egg White Mask
This is a particularly effective homemade acne mask. Separate the egg whites from two eggs, then beat to a frothy mixture, along with a tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply this egg white mask onto the skin, and leave for 15 minutes, till the mask tightens and dries out, then rinse with cool water.
Yogurt Mask
Mix two tablespoons of yogurt with one tablespoon of organic honey and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply, leave on till dry, then rinse off.
Oatmeal Mask
Mix two tablespoons of oatmeal with enough water to make a smooth paste. If yogurt has previously shown beneficial effects, you could use thinned yogurt in place of water. Apply onto cleansed skin, leave to dry and then rinse well.
Fuller's Earth Mask
Mix two tablespoons of Fuller's earth with 2 tablespoons rose water. Apply onto the face, let dry and rinse off.
Fruit Puree Masks
A number of fruits can be beneficial in the treatment of acne, most notably strawberries, which contain salicylic acid, a common ingredient in over the counter acne control products. Pureed strawberries mixed with yogurt can combat acne effectively. This is also one of the good homemade facial masks for acne scars when mixed with lemon juice.
Apart from the above masks there are a few dos and don'ts that can help in reducing the incidence of acne, and prevent further aggravation. These are as follows:
- As far as possible, avoid oily food, or food that is rich and spicy.
- Keep make up light or use it sparingly, and always remove completely with the use of a cleanser before you go to sleep. Ensure you use non comedogenic products.
- Use a mild cleanser for acne prone skin, or one that is formulated for your skin type, twice daily.
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, this also helps flush out toxins that can clog pores.
- Never squeeze pimples or boils - they could leave scars.
