How to Buy a Home Waxing Kit
Waxing kits for women are usually available in two forms, hot wax and cold wax strips. Hot wax requires you to heat and melt the wax in a microwave or stove, before application. Cold wax strips come with a wax coating and need no heating prior to application. These strips are convenient to use as they come in a ready to apply format. Also, applying cold wax strips is far less messier than hot wax strips. Although, you may go for any of these, depending upon your personal choice, the following guidelines can assist you while buying home waxing kit.
Area to be Waxed
Hot wax spreads easily and hence is most suitable for removing hair from larger areas of body. On the other hand, cold wax strips are best suited for removing hair from smaller areas such as upper lips, face and armpits. Thus, if you intend to remove hair from these areas, cold wax could be your choice. Hair from arms, legs, back, stomach, bikini area is best removed by hot wax. Brazilian bikini waxing is a great way of removing pubic hair.
Frequency
If you intend upon using home waxing kit very frequently, it would make sense to invest in an inexpensive one. Hot wax kits are cheaper and can be used to remove hair from all over the body. Hot wax spreads easily, hence small quantity is sufficient at a time. Refill packs are also available which further reduce the cost. If you only plan to wax once in a while, then you might invest in expensive cold wax strips.
Portability
Cold wax strips are convenient to use, easy to carry and less messy to use. Hence, if you intend to wax while on a vacation, it would be a wise idea to pack a box of cold wax strips than carry a complete hot wax kit. However, the best idea would be to wax before you leave for a vacation so as to save the hassle of waxing while on trip. Hot waxing can give you at least a month of hair free skin.
How to Use a Home Waxing Kit
These kits come with all the necessary tools and materials and most importantly instructions. You will find a wooden or plastic spatula, cotton or cheese cloth strips and sugar or natural wax in your kit. Read the instructions on the pack carefully before applying the wax. If you are using it for the first time, then do a patch test to check if your skin responds normally to the wax. Exfoliating the skin at least two days prior to application helps to remove even smallest of hair. Clean the part to be waxed with water, so that it is free of dirt, oil etc. Warm the wax pot in a microwave or on a stove. Make sure you don't heat it to the extent of burning your skin. Using a spatula, spread the wax in a thin layer, in the direction of the hair growth. Place the strip on the wax and smooth out with your hand, again in the direction of hair growth. Quickly, pull the strip in the direction opposite to the hair growth, at one go. Similarly, remove the hair from other areas as well. Apply moisturizer to reduce the redness and itching.
Although, waxing is primarily associated with women, some men also use them to get a smooth, hair free body. Since, there are no particular waxing kits for men, they can use those meant for women. Waxes particularly meant for removing coarse, stubborn hair are more suitable for men.
Home wax kits are a great option to save time and money. A little redness, itching and rash is common after waxing. However, if you experience excessive pain and rash that refuses to go away even after hours of waxing, then you should seek professional help.
