Home Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide, a chemical substance, is weak, colorless acid. It is mainly made up of a water molecule and one extra oxygen molecule (chemically written as H2O2). Hydrogen peroxide is so adaptable that it has home uses as well as medical uses also. The potency that you will use at home is the 3% grade. Some of the manufacturers have used this acid to bleach paper products, produce rocket fuel and propel submarines through the water. However, hydrogen peroxide should be used with extreme care especially while handling and using food grade hydrogen peroxide. It is important to store it in refrigerator, only diluted form with water should be used. If not diluted properly, can cause you skin burns.

Home Uses of Hydrogen Peroxide

1. Dentine Hygiene: - This is one of the main uses of hydrogen peroxide. You can take care of your toothbrushes and make it germ free by keeping them in the solution of hydrogen peroxide. A spray bottle can be used as disinfectant and used after each use of your toothbrush.

2. Whitening teeth: - If you rustle your teeth by 3% graded solution of hydrogen peroxide at least twice a day you will find your teeth are whitened. Also this will make your teeth bacteria and germ free.

3. Avoiding contagious diseases: - Public drinking fountains and other places with water may contract you with several contagious diseases. If the little amount of hydrogen peroxide is splash on the spout letting it settled for some time on it, allow flowing away some of the water and then drinking may help you from contracting contagious diseases.

4. Cleaning toilets and bathroom sinks:- The diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide with tap water and spraying it in your bathrooms and toilets keeps it germ free and restrict contagious diseases like cold. It also helps in keeping smelling them clean.

5. Cleansing your Kitchen:- You can use the diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide to clean your kitchen, kitchen appliances and making it germ free.

6. In Laundry:-Hydrogen peroxide is also used for whitening your clothes. A cup of hydrogen peroxide in a washer load is enough than using chlorine bleach. Only you have to take care that you don’t directly pour it on your clothes as it fade out the color of your cloths.

7. Killing the fungus:- If you soak your fingernails or toenails in a diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide with water it will help in killing the harmful fungus present in it.

8. Cleaning ears:- Two to three drops of hydrogen peroxide in ears can help you in cleaning with the waxy build up in your ears. As you put the drops in ears allow it to settle in for few minutes and then flush your ear carefully with warm water. Dry your ear with soft dry cloth after cleaning them.

9. Treating Skin Spots:- Hydrogen peroxide is applied slowly with gentle touch to the skin spots two to three times a day. This will help you dry up with your skin problems within no time.

10. Treating against harmful pesticides:- For cleaning your fruits and vegetables you can add hydrogen peroxide solution into a sink of your tap water. This will help you to remove harmful pesticides settled on fruits and vegetables.

11. Growing household plants:- To help your household plants grow green and healthier you can make a dilute solution of hydrogen peroxide with water. Use only an ounce of hydrogen in a cup full of water and spray on your household plants. This solution adds extra oxygen for the plants.

12. Used as sterilizer:- Recently, hydrogen peroxide is used in its vapor form for sterilizing ambulances. Also it is used in hospitals for sterilizing patient’s rooms, surgical or medical equipments, etc.
