A home theater is a nice medium to unwind, which provides relief from stress after a hectic schedule. With the changes in lifestyle, people tend to spend most of their leisure time at home. Thus, the need for some kind of entertainment at home has arisen in recent years. A home theater fits nicely into the definition of 'entertainment at home'.

The basement is an ideal place for setting up a home theater. Constructing an entirely separate room for a home theater is not a feasible idea. Instead, the basement which is otherwise usually filled with junk, can be used to create a home theater. The basement provides a quiet and comfortable atmosphere for viewing television.

How to Build Your Own Home Theater

Home theaters are commonly constructed in two forms: the one which is completely dedicated for viewing movies and the other which serves as a family room, that enables playing video games, watching movies and listening to music. The two main tasks that one needs to carry out in building a home theater, are preparing a floor plan and putting up a frame.

Floor Plan
The floor plan is a map that depicts the position of different items, equipment and accessories to be installed in the room. Although it is not mandatory to have a floor plan, the process of home theater construction becomes much easier with the help of a concrete plan or blueprint.

Putting Up a Frame
The wall frame to be installed in a home theater, has three main components; the bottom plate, studs and the top plate. The bottom plates are fixed into the floor with the help of nails, while the studs are fixed above them. The top plate touches the ceiling or the beams near the ceiling. Top plates should always be fixed to these beams. During the installation, the top and bottom plates are installed before fixing the studs between them.

Home Theater System
The gadgets or electronic equipment that form a home theater system are the screen, speakers, a DVD player, a cable system or digital satellite, a VHS recorder and the surround sound receiver. Before assembling the system, the position of the speakers should be determined in advance. The installation of wiring, hence, becomes easy.

Media Closet
It is used for storing the equipment that form the home theater system. The media closet holds equipment like the amplifier, DVD player, power conditioners, etc. It can be built anywhere in the home theater. Try to avoid incorporating more gears in the rack, since it leads to a rise in the temperature.

Home theaters are used primarily for entertainment. One should decide beforehand, the budget that he wants to spend on a home theater. Such a home theater construction, if done properly, can provide a quality viewing experience.
