Home Remedies for Head Cold

The first and most important thing is to blow your nose regularly. Do not sniff the mucus back into the head. Blowing your nose helps in clearing the nasal passage and sinuses, which otherwise leads to a stuffy head. You can use hot or cold packs to bring some relief to the head cold. You can also sleep with an extra pillow to help drain the nasal passages.
Drinking hot liquids like tea and soup help in relieving nasal congestion and preventing dehydration. It also helps in soothing the inflamed membranes lining the nose and the throat. Lime juice is one of the most effective head cold remedy. Drinking dilute lime juice in a warm glass of water with a teaspoon of honey helps in relieving the symptoms to a great deal.
Garlic contains antibiotic properties and is hence considered as an effective home remedy for head cold. Drinking chicken soup with a little bit of garlic added to it will help clear your nasal passages. You can also prepare a concotion by boiling small pieces of ginger in a cup of water. Strain the solution and add a spoon of sugar to it. Drinking this concotion will give you a lot of relief from the symptoms that you are suffering from. Hot ginger tea is also an effective solution to head cold.
There is another way to clear your nasal passage. You need to take 10 grams of spraguea and tie it in a clean handkerchief. Heat it in a vessel and sniff the roasted spraguea. It is an excellent remedy in clearing blocked nose. Another effective home remedy is drinking lemon barley water. Cut a lemon in two pieces and add it to a jar with 2 tablespoons of barley. Pour hot water into the jar, cover it and leave it overnight. Drink this water the next morning, with or without honey. You need to drink freshly made lemon barley water, therefore prepare this solution daily.
You can also add chopped garlic to two tablespoon of honey and have it every night. It is a very effective remedy for head cold. Nasal passages can be cleared by inhaling warm steam.
Drink plenty of fluids like apple, carrot and beetroot juice. Drinking plenty of water is also benificial. Fluids help flush the toxins from the body. Cinnamon powder mixed with honey taken daily for 3 days, helps in clearing the sinuses.
Gargle with sage tea to disinfect the mouth and inhale the aromatic fumes. It helps in relieving the inflammation in the nose and throat. Avoid alcohol as it causes dehydration and lowers immunity. Echinacea an effective herbal remedy for curing a head cold is available in the form of tablets. Follow the recommended dosages on the package to treat head cold.
Eucalyptus oil is very effective in clearing a blocked nose. Apply little oil on the sides of the nose to clear the blockage. A pinch of calamus root powder in each nostril will clear a congested nose. A warm bath also helps in relieving the body ache and fatigue caused due to head sore.
