Home Party Graduation Seeches
Use a speech at your home party to let the graduate know just what they mean to you.
At a home party graduation speeches are not required at all. People will likely be coming and going all night, so even if you did have a speech when would you deliver it and how would you tailor the content to an audience that may not quite be the one you imagined. The audience for your speech may well just have sat through graduation speeches at High School recently and might not relish the prospect of hearing another one.
However even with this in mind I believe it is seriously worth considering making a speech as the parent of the graduate. I simply see this opportunity as being one of the last chances you have to say how much you love the graduate, how proud you are of them and how much you will miss them when they go off on a successful adventure at college.
Perhaps there are appropriate times to fit in the speech. If you have the family and close friends gathered at the start of the party you can speak then. Perhaps there is a point in the evening when everyone has been served food and they can easily be brought together for the speech. Also you may just want to have a private speech for the family before anyone arrives. If the celebration is being held in a restaurant or is a dinner at home then later in the meal you should be free to speak. There will always be a number of points where you can fit a speech in and you will be glad you did.
The things you would like to say will very much come from the heart. You may wish to start by welcoming your guests who will be very special to you and will have played a key part in the graduate’s life. Perhaps there are some who have been highly supportive at times, even helping out in difficult times.
Then you could move on to relate some tales about the graduate over the years with key highlights , funny stories, their contribution to others, their achievements, their personality and what they mean to each of you. You can congratulate them n their success and hope everyone enjoys being part of the celebration. You can look forward to their new life away from home and wish them all the best. Lastly wish them all your love and propose a toast.
An example graduation toast is
Let's stand together
and toast the Grad,
after four years plus
their more than glad!
Accomplishments like this
deserve some praise,
so to the graduate,
our glasses we raise!
There may be tears shed as you deliver this heartfelt speech but I hope in years to come you will feel you did the right thing. There may even be a video of it on youtube if someone has a mobile phone handy.
