Home Daycare Requirements
Children are a source of joy, and caring for them can become a source of income as well as a means to generate employment. This article gives a brief overview on home daycare requirements.
Day Care Requirements
Understand the Market: The first thing that one needs to understand is that running a daycare is a business, that has to be combined with love for children. But business it is, and it has to make profit, to sustain itself and for growth. A methodical research of the child care services, like day care centers, in the vicinity is essential, to asses competition, evaluate the profit potential, parents' wants and concerns, and your marketability. One needs to assess the start-up cost, daily running costs, funding sources, setting up policies and procedures, government licensing, grants and subsidies for daycare, and client charges. One also needs to assess, if one wants to go independent in setting up a daycare, or would prefer to be a franchise of an established chain of day care centers.
Location: The location and the size of the home daycare center plays a vital role in attracting the market. Some prefer to run the daycare from their own homes, while some prefer an all together separate location. Taking over an existing daycare center is also a viable option, as it means one just needs to move in and make a few odd changes as per individual needs. A rich as well as a moderate income neighborhood is a potential location, to attract a good crowd. One must have the building checked thoroughly for fire safety, and pool safety, only if you plan to have a pool in the daycare.
Legal Requirements: As a day care is a professional business, and also deals with the care of young children, there are some legal bindings set by the government, to ensure proper and safe running of the daycare. A crucial step is getting all daycare license requirements done. A license is essential to run daycare center, all states have different legal code and state zoning daycare regulations that must be met. All daycare records must be maintained and updated regularly. Some states expect the daycare centers to have adequate business insurance coverage. All books, and the day care itself can be subjected to unannounced inspections at least twice in a year. It is mandated by law, that all child abuse, even suspected cases are to be reported to the concerned authority, this is irrespective of where the abuse has occurred. Guidelines regarding child safety are also to be followed religiously.
Establishing the Daycare: To establish a day care, one requires qualified care providers, teachers, helpers, equipment and supplies, books as per age grouping, etc. Once the infrastructure is in place, it is time to advertise the daycare. Word-of-mouth advertising works fast and very well, or one can introduce themselves through community work projects. Get printed brochures, catalogs, fliers and business cards to help market and establish yourself. One needs to keep information regarding hours of operation and holidays, payment policy, pick-up and drop-off procedure, meals and menu information, hygiene procedures, health, immunizations and illness policy, absentee notice, discipline management, etc. ready at hand, for all day care related queries.
Accomplishing the requirements for starting a daycare at home is easier than running it; however, if one has the inclination, the infrastructure and the right methodology, it would be a good and successful business. The above-mentioned home daycare requirements are the most basic minimum one needs to start up a day care. There are many government consulting agencies that can help in starting a home daycare center, where one can get adequate and valuable information.
