Home Business Overview For WAHM'S
The majority of WAHM'S start a networking home business as a part time activity while they still have a day job or other activity such as being a stay at home parent. Those "day-job" duties can consume a fairly large chunk of time in a person's 24 hours so time management becomes a paramount factor during the part time hours available to build a successful home business. There is a hard way and an easy way to manage time.
Many people mistakenly believe that time management is about squeezing more tasks and activities into a day. Time management is actually about getting the important tasks done. It's also about learning to do things efficiently so you can ultimately accomplish more. In this series we will look at some factors that can simplify managing time.
Management starts with questions and looks for answers that become solutions. Most important, management begins with self-management. Plus, all management is involved with removing the obstacles that prevent a person from completing the tasks that produce the results they want.
PART ONE - FOCUS
Many people start a business from home and although they all have a reason (or several reasons) they don't have a clear understanding of the reason. People say, "I want more money." Or they remark, "I want more free time." But money and time are only tools, a better question they should ask themselves is, "What will I do with the money or time?"
The Why
A well-defined statement of the reason we want to work at home is the best starting point for any home entrepreneur. The why is not a goal it is a reason or purpose.
The Results List
What are the results operating my business will give me? And, which activities will most quickly give me the results I want? What amount of money will I need to accomplish my 'Why'? Looking at my compensation plan, what production must I achieve and if I build a marketing group and what is the average production my group must reach?
Set Your Business Hours
Most part time business builders sleep eight hours spend 10 hours getting to working and returning from their day job. That leaves 6 hours for family and business activities. The good news is a home business can be started on 2 to 3 hours per evening and some activity on the weekend. Let's say you are committing to operate your part time business 3 hours per evening and 3 hours on Saturday morning. That allocates 18 business hours per week
As the income reaches or exceeds the amount your day job pays you can make a decision to free up the 10 hours set aside for that day-job purpose Now you are truly a home business entrepreneur. You are in business for yourself and in control of your lifestyle. You dictate the results.
Make A Daily Task Schedule
Once the "Why" is discovered, the wanted results worked out and the business hours are set you can set up your daily task schedule. Tasks such as clearing and answering e-mail, phone calls, conference calls, working on promotions and advertising, record keeping and most important, polishing your skill by studying your craft and industry.
Divide the tasks into allocated time slots and keep to the schedule. Prioritize the tasks that can produce most of the results you are after with the most productive being the top most in importance. This is a critical aspect in your business if it is to be successful
The three parts of Focus must be in place if you are to manage your business and if you can't manage yourself, it is unlikely you will be able to manage others. If you have not set down your Why you will do what many do and give up on your business at the first sign of adversity that comes your way. Setting business hours and sticking to them will dramatically increase your productivity. Without set business hours your tasks will pile up and become overwhelming. Making a daily task schedule will help prevent procrastination and the depression that comes from being overwhelmed.
