Have thought about becoming your own boss with a home based business?

I mean, if you are like me, you've probably heard these phrases a gazillion number of times: "Be your own boss!" "Enjoy the benefits of being your own boss!"

Why is everyone around me and almost every website I visit pushing me to have my own home based business? Can't I just work for someone else and not have to take on the stress and extra challenges related to entrepreneurial activity on a daily basis?

There are very few people I know who are willing to take the risk and head on for an adventure of a lifetime by starting out their own home based business, whether it be a small one or a grand one. And I'll tell you exactly why.

Most people are scared. Fears just rule their lives day in and day out. There's the fear of uncertainty. Let's face it, the concept of being your own boss brings about two emotions of varying lengths: freedom and responsibility.

Many individuals are excited on embracing the freedom part, but when it comes to the latter, they hesitate. And mainly because they don't know what they are going to face, and how to face it.

There's also the fear of failure. Yes, you are now the happy, contented guy sitting pretty in the corner room office of the 32nd floor of a corporation you have been all your life working hard for. Though you know deep down in your heart that you are underpaid and overworked, you just give it a shrug.

You've heard and may have had interactions with passionate businessman on how it feels like being your own boss, and for a minute there they had you convinced to take the plunge into the unknown, but then it kicks in.

"What if I fail?" "I'm good at working for another guy. I don't know if I'm ready to be my own boss. What if my clients don't like me? What if I only taste success for a month, but afterward go into a downward spiral?"

It surprises me how most people are willing to give up their wildest dreams and greatest ambitions in life, when it is being offered to them already on a silver platter - the opportunity of a lifetime to make the needed changes which will impact their lives for the better.

It's like being offered a year's all expense paid vacation touring the whole world, and you settle for a can of beer in your front yard. A striking contrast indeed.

Being your own boss means embracing all the challenges, and accepting that fear is a part of it. But even in spite of it, it is still moving head on towards your goal. It is finding your passion in life and doing it with all your heart. And along with that, comes all the rewarding riches of a life well lived.
