Holiday Essentials For Packing – The Traveler's Basic Kit Guide

There is no such thing as a standard traveler’s kit but there are basic essentials that no traveler should be without. This guide covers all the basics that you need to pack for a fantastic trip away!
You never want to be caught unprepared during a trip. Plan ahead and stuff your bag with the essential things that you need. The better prepared you are, the more fun you will have on your trip! Here’s a checklist of what should be inside your traveler’s kit.

Medicine Kit

Never assume that no mishaps will happen on a trip. Even minor bruises should be taken care of, so always keep your first aid kit handy.

Treating wounds – Keep the right things in your kit

Take a roll of bandages, safety pins and scissors. Tweezers are always good to have around too because you never know what foreign materials could penetrate your skin. You should always have ointments and alcohols for treating abrasions and if you are prone to allergies and itching, antihistamine medications like Benadryl should be handy.

Common medicine

You're going to want to bring any medication that you normally keep on hand, such as Advil for headaches. Something I'm never without is Zantac, or some type of antacid, just in case my stomach has problems digesting new food. You also might want to have a decongestant because travel means the air is going to be different and you don't want a runny nose! Also, if you're prone to dehydration or motion sickness, you should consult your doctor before you travel so that they can recommend a medicine that's right for you.

Prescription drugs

Don't forget to take them with you and make sure that you have enough supply to last you for the whole trip!

Your Personal Kit

This kit should include all of your toiletries. Dental – toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and a small bottle of mouthwash. Hair – You'll want your favourites; brush, comb, shampoo and conditioner, and any hair spray, cream or gels that you use. Next you're going to want to pack your make-up kit here. Just bring the cosmetics that you really need though, it never hurts to have a small mirror with you and I never leave without my manicure set! It's an essential.

Skin protection

In this day and age, we can't be protected enough against the sun! Make sure to pack sunscreen with at least an SPF of 35 and it's also a good idea to have lip balm that also has an SPF. Any balm that doesn't have an SPF will only magnify the sun to your lips! Keep your skin healthy by using these as often as you need them!

Bathroom needs

Now, depending on what kind of traveling that you intend to do and where, it might be a good idea to bring along some toilet paper and of course you'll want to have soaps, towels and a washcloth. Many places, especially in Europe don't have facecloths at all, so it's always best to be prepared!

Emergency Kit

This includes the stuff you might need like flashlights, lighters, a pocket knife and duct tape, again, depending on where you travel. Mobile phones are important in case of an emergency. Remember to bring your charger and an extra battery because it never hurts to be on the safe side! If you're flying though, make sure you know what you can and can't bring with you and know what can go on-board with you and what needs to be checked.

Leisure Kit

This is what you bring for fun! Things like your travel journal, books and magazines to read, maybe even a locale's language book! Most importantly, don't forget the camera! You're going to be seeing some fantastic views and making awesome memories!

There is no such thing as a standard traveler’s kit. It's always going to vary depending on where you're going and what you're going to be doing there. The kits above are basically the essentials that you're going to want to have most times you travel, give or take a few things. The best way to make sure that you've got everything in order is to make a list and as you go through it, check the items off. You've got a fun and exciting trip ahead of you, so make the most of it!
