Holes

Back from a dark place.
She smiles behind sad, ridden eyes
Laughing when nothing but en-wrapping sorrow fills the depths of her mind
Taking their accusations and insults with the endurance of a soldier
Ringing like London Bells in her ears
Loud, Clear, Unmistakable
Whispered words haunting her in a never ending lapse

She trails behind them always
Never taking a step forward without a shadow to cover the imprint
But she walks on
Through the sneers and hate-filled glares
Finally making herself known
Head high and pride swirling around her still slumped shoulders

Maybe she will make it
Maybe she won’t
But they will always remember her
Even if she was only that girl
That girl
Is now whole
Did you like it?
Yes
No
