Hockey Equipment
Read on to know more about the various types of field hockey equipment that you will need to purchase if you are considering playing field hockey as a sport…
There are a number of well known sports brands that will carry hockey equipment kits packaged to suit your pocket and your level of the game. Here is what you will need to look at when thinking of purchasing field hockey equipment:
Hockey Stick:
This is the first thing that one would consider buying, because without a hockey stick it is not really possible to play the game. A hockey stick is a ‘J’ shaped stick. When the game came into prominence, the hockey sticks were made out of wood. Nowadays, there has been a tremendous growth in technology and science. This has lead to these hockey sticks being made out of elements such as Carbon and Fiberglass. This is also useful as most of the turfs are now made out of synthetic grass and these materials work best together.
There are two ways of deciding the length of a hockey stick which will help you play the game well. The American method is that one holds the hockey stick to one’s side and going for a hockey stick which is about an inch or two below one’s waist. The Dutch method recommends that one should put the head of the hockey stick into one’s armpit and go for a hockey stick which ends near the middle of one’s kneecap. If you are confused, you can ask your coach for recommendations.
Protective Gear:
The next thing to consider while looking at hockey equipment, is purchasing protective gear. There are a variety of pads that need to be worn underneath the hockey dress which will protect your essentials. These include Jock / Jill Pads which protect the groin area, Shin Pads, Shoulder Pads, Elbow Pads, and even a Neck Guard. These are quite necessary as the hockey ball or stick is liable to strike at a particular body part while playing the game. These pads help protect your body from harm.
Also in this list is a good helmet. This will help protect your head from taking on hits while you are at play. A good mouth guard adds extra protection to the teeth.
You can also invest in a pair of gloves. This will protect your hands and fingers while you play, and they will also help provide for a good grip on the hockey stick and control on the handling of the stick.
Apparel:
This is also important when you are buying field hockey equipment. Depending on your team or club rules, you may need to purchase a set or three of the hockey dress. You may also have to invest in at least 3 pairs of socks which match these colors.
These are the basic essentials of hockey equipment. You will of course need other things such as sock tapes to ensure the socks fit snugly. You will also need lots of sticky tape for the hockey stick repairs.
As you progress in the game you may want to look at a helmet fixing kit as well.
Now that you are armed with all the hockey equipment geared to help you play your game, all you need is determination and hard work to become a world quality hockey player.
