The company name Google has its origin in the word Googol, which is the term for the number that represents ‘one followed by hundred zeros’. The initial public offering for Google took place on 19 August, 2004 and raised a whopping US $1.67 billion, making Google worth US $23 billion.
Google Inc. today, is an American public corporation, earning revenue from advertising related to its Internet search, e-mail, online mapping, office productivity, social networking, and video sharing services. The Google headquarters known as The Googleplex, is located in Mountain View, California. Since Google was founded, the company has continued to grow through a series of new product developments, acquisitions, and partnerships. Google is popular for its applications like Gmail, Orkut, Google Adsense and Google Adwords.
