Chapter 4 - Almost Hopeless

Today is Thursday and the weather is blazingly hot so I chose to wear my green ruffle mesh tank top instead of my Versace blouse. But what is more irritating in my day is my seatmate Jace Naylor, jerk # 2, well, # 2 because Aiden were a big of a jerk than him. He is a football PLAYER, emphasizing the 'player' word for what can I say, he's been a lot with women actually.

I'm trying to avoid his melting gaze and act as if he doesn't exists at all, things like that should better be considered if you want to show no interest at a specific person who's dying for you to stare back. Minutes later, he noticed that I have really no intention of giving him any bit of attention so he started the conversation with, "Paige Sanders, right?"

He has this light brown shaggy hair and a perfectly chiseled nose. He got that nice jaw structure and a six-pack abs. So much for working out, he smells like sweat but for now I can smell soap and perfume.

I answered blankly, "No, you're mistaken."

"Beautiful name there Sanders." He ignored my reply.

"I'm trying to pay attention to class, Naylor, thank you." I flashed him a don't-disturb-me smile.

But perhaps he didn't bother to understand my warning. "Wanna go out sometime, Sanders? You know, go somewhere else... more private?"

I scoffed. Mr. Copper on the other hand called our attention that's why I came up with a clever excuse, "Well, Jace Naylor here is telling me another version of what he knows about Newton's first, second and third law."

Mr. Copper seems to get his full attention to Jace and looked at him curiously; "Will you care to share something to the class?"

He shook his head and sounded coolly when he said, "I'm sorry Mr. Copper, sir, for I have nothing against what the book says about Newton's laws. You very well said it in front of the class. How could I disagree even more?"

The other girls in the classroom sighed dreamily at him as he said that. Whatever it is, it doesn't sound that amazing.

"Very well, let's get back to our topic, shall we? No more interruptions." The teacher said.

Oh well, I guess my plan didn't work. "Will you like- hang out with me sometimes?"

I fixed my hair and ignoring him again until the bell rings. All of us got outside the room when Jace halted me as I was stuffing my books into my bag.

"Hey Sanders, you haven't answered my question."

"The answer is no, Naylor."

"Why? You see, every girl will be dying to be on your place right now."
Oh God here comes the everyone-loves-me-except-you speech. "Oh really? Well, I'm not like those girls."

"You know you shouldn't play hard on me." He sounded serious now so I laughed at him.

Until the problem came, "Hey man."

"Hey there Aiden."

"So what's going on here?" He asked eyeing me. I put my hands to my hips, "Look-"

Jace cut me off by saying, "Now I'm trying to become a nice guy by offering her a date or something and she just shoves it away like nothing. And the worst part is she's making herself hard to get."

"Well P here has a point. She's avoiding to become your next victim." Madie came behind me and defended me against Mr. Player # 2.
Aiden stayed silent but I can see from the look in his eyes that he's somehow okay with it.

"That's right because, I can't afford losing myself to someone who isn't even worth it." Now my statement is not only for jerk # 2 but also for the biggest jerk in school as well.

"No, because you don't know what fun is." Jace said.
I was about to come up with a strong reply but Madie here took the bullet for me.

"Watch it wise man, but before you say something let me begin by saying that P here is everything but boring. In fact, she's with a lot of guys lately that she doesn't give a damn that is. And most especially she dates guys who she doesn't clearly know. You know from the internet, and later meet with them in any place and in any time." She sounded confident.
My jaw just dropped for what Madie told them. Yeah, it was a complete lie and flirting with complete strangers would be the last thing that I would normally do.

But Naylor here looked impressed for the first time, "Wow, you actually do that, Sanders?"

Madie pinched me lightly. Before I could stop the words from my mouth, I came out with the single word, "Yes."

"See, I told you that she's something that you won't be competing with." Madie smiled at them sweetly.
Geez, Madie, you're impossible.
Aiden just smirked and looked at me and Madie that he thought we made a huge joke.

"Really, you do that, Paige?"
"Absolutely." I told him.
He put his hand to his chin, thinking. "Well in that case you can call one of your unknown guys on Saturday afternoon to a date."
I looked at him, confused.
"I was thinking if maybe you could show us what a badass you are and bring a date on Saturday for us to meet. You know I always wanted a proof to believe something."
I balled my fist but hid it in a way as possible to show how calm I am.

"Yeah, that's great dude." Naylor strongly agreed with it and tapped Aiden's shoulder to express it.
"Bring a guy or else it'll only prove that you're lying."
I looked at him horrified. "That's stupid."
"You're so full of it, brother. You can't literally make a deal out of this." Madie almost shouted.
"I am actually making a deal. And if you lie to us, we'll have to think of a consequence for that. Are you in?"
"I'm in, I can also bring a date as well." Nayson said. I'm so getting this guy killed sometime.

Madie whispered to my ear, "Do it."
"Okay, I accept it. Where to on Saturday."
"We'll talk about it soon. 4:00 in the afternoon. The meeting place is at the school's gates. And be sure to bring a person who we don't know. Understand?" He flashed me a smile.
I nodded so he left with the satisfaction which he always wears when he's planning something evil.

I walked away ignoring Madie calling my name.
******************************************************

"What the hell, Madie! Look what you've just gotten us into." I almost shouted at her face.

"You're welcome, P. I really saved your ass back there." She said when we were in the girl's locker room changing our clothes in a P.E uniform.

"Maybe, you can't see what I'm trying to show you. I have no person or a face to show them. You know how hard it is to call some stranger then ask him if he can go out with me that easily?"

"Well, you know guys outside the school right?"

I didn't answer her so she said, "Vincent?"

"He's a jerk. I don't want to see him after he pulled an attempt to kiss me."

"How about Josh? The cute guy in-"

"Josh is my ex, it will be very awkward to date him again."

"Well, there's Mac who's been into you in the past months. Or maybe Will, the one who gave you flowers. Or-or Ralph the one with the sexy butt."

"Yuck, Madie, I don't want any of them on Saturday." I can't believe how she mentioned those names in front of me.

"Maybe Charles will be okay for you." Because of that I hopped up and my mood lightened up a little bit.
"Perfect!"

Charles Ports is the guy I met during Press Conference when we were both in the same event. He is handsome and really a guy with a big heart. We switched phone numbers before the event ends so there's a chance that he might be rescuing me on Saturday.

Madie squeezed my cheek, "That's what I'm talking about. I'm SO smart."

"Hey you girls!..."

Mr. Spears, our P.E teacher shouted at us and told us to save the talking after this which made me laugh somehow.

Well, I hope Charles would take it into consideration that I need his help, as in I'm in need. Who will be a decent stranger who would say yes to my offer immediately in a second?

Chapter 5 - The Sound of Success

Thursday night... Sweet Temptations (Ice cream shop)...

I am having a peaceful night in the middle of a noisy city. Just by looking at the scene outside, it made me think how time really flies fast. Or maybe I'm just saying it because I don't think that it's a good idea to bring Charles with them especially Aiden who clearly wasn't convinced about me dating guys in a flash of a second.

My strawberry ice cream is melting down to my hands so I quickly wiped it with tissue. There, all better. Oh, before I forgot, I better call Charles and inquire him about the hang out. Taking my phone, I dialed his number.

After the first ring he picked it up. "Paige, I can't believe you've called. Long time no speak." He seems to be in a good mood.

"Hi Charles. I am wondering if I could ask you a little favor? I know that it's weird but right now I'm in such a tight luck." Oh please, say yes.

He replied, "Sure, anything for you. So, what is it?"

I paused for a couple of seconds then, "Will you hang out with me this Saturday? I mean, there will be others who will come so don't worry. Will you, Charles?" I am biting my lip right now, hard that it might draw blood.

"Paige, I would love to but I already have a girlfriend. She will be very upset if she finds out about this, really."

"Oh, okay, I understand. Do you have someone or a friend that would like to come? A person who is willing?"

"I'll try to ask one of my friends then so don't worry. I will inform you tomorrow."

"Thank you very, very much Charles, I really do appreciate. Bye."

"Bye Paige."

I hung up then continued to finish what I'm eating when someone sat across me with his smile.

"Best place to cool down?"

"Almost, Aron. You want some? I can get you an ice cream you know."

He patted my head, "Nah, I was just passing by and accidentally saw you here."

"Alright, you say so but I tell you, you'll regret it." I smiled at him.

"No I won't." He stared at me like I have something on my face. A crap or something.

"What? Don't stare at me like that." I slapped him on the face lightly for him to turn away. "So what are you doing here anyway?"

"I was supposed to meet someone right now." As he said that I gave him a malicious grin. "No, actually it's all about business. He'll be here in any minute."

I didn't bother to ask further questions so I just nodded.

"You wanna take a walk?"

I held his hands and dragged him outside. "I'm so dying to."

We are walking in the cold night, thanks to my jacket, giving me warmth and comfort. Then I saw Aron laughing at me.

I raised my eyebrow at him. "What's so funny?"

"You're so cute." I looked at him, not getting his message at first when, "Seriously, you have something on your face."

"Oh. Where?" I anxiously grabbed my tissue from my bag. "Relax, let me get it for you." He let out a low chuckle then used his thumb to wipe a strawberry ice cream from my left cheek. So that's why he was staring me a while ago.

"There, all clean. You surely dug into that. I never knew you love ice cream so much that you practically put it in your face." He said jokingly.

"Facial cream I should say." We kept on walking and I kept on glancing at the stars when suddenly I felt his hands into mine. It's soft and just good to touch. He seems so calm but me on the other hand was a little bit shocked. Aron lightly squeezed my hand with his, so I swayed my hand together with his and continued walking.

"Don't get near me that much, people might think that there's something between us." He said to break the awkward silence between us.

"Nah, screw them this is America, no one gives a damn of what other people do."

"But other people would." A serious but soothing voice came behind us. We turned around and saw Aiden looking hot as hell even in a cold weather like this. He narrowed his eyes to me and then to Aron who stares blankly at him.

"Oh so you're here to ruin the night? I should've known." I said defensively. I pointed my finger at him while saying that.

"I told you Paige, you should bring someone who we don't know. Not Aron, he clearly is our schoolmate." His voice rang into my ears maybe because of his accent or how he says it.

"I know about that, you don't need to remind me, smart guy." I said rudely and that made Aron even more baffled of what Aiden and I are trying to say.

"You are really rude Aiden coming here and destroy the moment. Who even sent you here? Now go and leave us here." My voice showed that I was really shooing him away but he seemed amused by it. To save me from such ignorance Aron came closer to me and whispered to my ear which made Aiden stiffen a little bit. "Actually, Paige, he's the one whom I'm going to talk to. Something which I said important."

"O-okay, you should've told me earlier." That made me blush but I won't take back what I've just said to him.

"Let's go, they're waiting." Aiden said and Aron joined him but before that, he said goodbye to me.
******************************************************

It's almost 9 so I jogged to my car and went straight home, more than determined to find a date that will surely scream 'IN YOUR FACE' to both jerk # 1 and 2. I was now in the porch when I heard a noise inside the house so I quickly opened the door and went in. It's impossible, right now, my mom is out and also dad. I saw a light in the bathroom and a sound of a flowing water. I grabbed a golf club and held it shakily. Whoever it is, he will be surely sorry for creeping into my house and use our bathroom without asking first. Ew, pathetic person.

One... two... three! I turned the knob and burst into the bathroom.

"What the hell! Can't you see I'm trying to take a shower here?!" He was freakishly startled by the loud bang.

Without even knowing it, the guy went out behind the shower glass with a towel around his waist and glared at me.

Uh-oh, I'm so in trouble. The guy standing in front of me is none other that my cousin Ethan. OMG, I totally forgot that he'll be arriving this day. I put down the golf club that I'm holding and laughed weakly. "Oops."

"Are you trying to kill me with that? And Paige... would you mind? I'm trying to do my private business here? I don't want anybody staring at my junk."

"Yuck, so disgusting! You know, I'm sorry, I thought you were an intruder. Like I said, sorry." I turned away and went straight to my room.

When I got to my room, I received a text from Madie asking about our homework in Calculus. I don't know why most people hate Calculus so much, I mean it's a fun subject and challenging too. I replied 'yes' to her so she told me that she'll come to my house right now and borrow it from me.

After 10 seconds, I heard the door bell ring and I quickly went downstairs and saw Madie already inside. "Who's with you tonight? Home alone?" She asked as I handed her my homework.

"Nah, my cousin is here with me so I'm fine."
"Okay, call me when you need me. Don't ever hesitate." She looked at me, dead serious.
"Whoa, I will, don't worry about it. You'll be the first one to know if anything happens."

After that she left and I sat on the sofa. Without nothing to do, I clicked the flat screen LCD TV on and saw Ethan came into the living room and sat next to me.

"Hey, you wanna play board game?" I offered him.
"Yeah, Star Wars epic duel game would be cool."
"You never get tired with it." I sighed.
"What I love this game. Now let's start." He took off the cover and started organizing the pieces.
"Alright, but just one game."
"How about four?"
"Two."
"Three. Come on, Paige, it'll be fun, I promise you."
I sat on the mat and said, "Fine, I'll agree with three."

The night turned out pretty well, thanks to Ethan of course. And how would you know, I felt like having a big brother will be great.
******************************************************

Friday...
Ethan drove me to school, for the first time since he convinced me to do so. Actually before that thing got settled we both undergo some exchange of words first. Unluckily, Ethan here is a better hardhead than me so I have no other choice rather than do as he said.

First of all my day went as usual, more stares, classes, Madie, arrogant jocks, cheerleaders, brainiacs, so on. Same usual day but the thing which made me ecstatic that afternoon is Charles just called and he told me that his friend, Kyle agreed to meet me on Saturday.

I thanked him so much for his effort to find me someone. Now the jerks will really kiss my ass tomorrow.

Kyle Marcus, you better show up tomorrow.
