Hip Nerve Pain
People suffering from sciatica often complain about hip nerve pain that causes discomfort during normal bodily movements.

Causes
Inappropriate posture while sitting or sleeping are some of the common reasons that can cause hip nerve pain. Some other causes observed are given below:
Sciatic Nerve Damage
According to experts, sciatic nerve is the longest, as it extends from lower back and travels all the way down to the feet. The nerve passes through the hip and then along the back of both the thighs. Compression of a part of a nerve, due to conditions like herniated discs, can cause bothersome nerve pain in the hip area, which will continue, unless the underlying cause is treated.
A Broken Hip Bone
In the elderly, bones are brittle, hence even a minor injury can damage the bones severely, which may cause unbearable pain in the hip. A severe blow to the hip during an accident, such as falling from a staircase very hard, is likely to cause cracked hip bone. A person with hip injury complain about knee pain and are often found limping while walking.
Hip Arthritis
Arthritis is a condition that triggers inflammation of the joints. When the hip joints are involved, it is referred as hip arthritis. Swelling of hip joints may put excessive pressure on the nerves near it. In other words, the hip nerve running over these joints, gets compressed. Thus, due to inflammation of hip joints, it leads to a pinched nerve, causing a feeling of numbness or burning sensation in the hip area.
Peripheral Neuropathy
Peripheral neuropathy is nothing but a damage to the nerve that passes through the limbs. Uncontrolled diabetes or a complication in diabetes can bring peripheral neuropathy. People suffering from peripheral neuropathy experience that originates from the hip area and travels all the way down to the lower part of the leg. Shooting pain in leg, in people diagnosed with diabetes, is an indication of peripheral neuropathy.
Treatment for left or right hip nerve pain is decided after proper diagnosis of the underlying cause. For instance, keeping diabetes under control, by taking the necessary precautions, is one of the solutions to reduce the pain associated with the hip area. Painkillers may also be prescribed, in case the nerve pain is the result of an injury.
